Official Shooting Synopsis for the Mortal Kombat Webseries

"Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung are obsessed with reigning over various realms (parallel universes) and the winners of Mortal Kombat competitions are granted supreme control over these worlds. The Earthrealm (Earth) is an unconscious participant in this competition and only a few select humans understand the consequences of losing Mortal Kombat and what it will mean to Earth."

Sweetre15: Personally, if this is true, than I'm pretty relieved as far as this webseries' direction is going because it sounds rather faithful to the MK premise. However, I want to say this, if Kevin Tancharoen puts the mysticism in and STILL decides to humanize the otherworldly creatures than I'll be pretty upset because there would not be any excuse for it in that case especially since this is studio-financed. The reason why I would truly be upset is because I would see NO POINT in having the fantasy plot intact if he's just going to humanize creatures for the sake of plausibility and "realism". Nolan may have went for a real-world aesthetic with his Batman films as well as tweak some characters' origins but he still stayed rather true to the core of the Batman mythology and didn't strip any of the characters of their identity.

I think this might be good.Two of the three writers, Todd and Aaron Helbing, have worked on several shows I like including Entourage, Spartacus:Blood and Sand, Gods of the Arena, Brotherhood and Carnivale.

@Tazmaniak: I want to agree because I like those shows too but I'm VERY skeptical because the short film gave me every reason to be sadly.

The last thing Mortal Kombat needs to be is realistic. I'm not looking for a dark insight on the human psyche, I just want to see people beating the shit out of each other, ending with someones spine getting ripped out.

I think it'll be fine. He did state that the magic will be there when it needs to be, especially in the otherworld. He did say that... So I have no complaints. I just hope they continue using real Martial Artists.

well if this Mortal Kombat webseries synopsis is true that mean Ed Boon and WB want this to be close to the actually Mortal Kombat mythos.

remember this series needs to be closely linked to the release of the new Mortal Kombat game.

@jazzman: Not to mention that Kevin Tancharoen confirmed Ed Boon's involvement in an interview with Gamasutra.com.

But read my little editorial above and you'll see that I'm giving them a warning as well as a piece of my mind.lol

@Sweetre15

i did not know Ed Boon is actually involved thats cool

but heres a problem are they bring back Johnny Cage. if his dead or they kill him off again thats a epic fail. in the video game series it was consider one of the worst thing Midway did.

@jazzman: According to the official press release the three primary characters that will be focused on will be Liu Kang,Johnny Cage,and Scorpion. So I pray that Cage doesn't die during the webseries because I hated that as well.
