Troy Hickman, an author best known for his work with Top Cow's Witchblade and Common Ground comic book series, has written a mission story arc for the massively multiplayer online role playing game City Of Heroes. For anyone that has ever played this game, Issue 14: Mission Architect lets the players design their own mission story arcs. City Of Heroes has long promised stories written by actual comic book authors and they are now up and running! My account has been inactive for a short time, but as a fan of the Witchblade series, I might have to reactivate it and check this one out. Hope to see you in game!

Never got a chance to play it but wanted to. Going to buy the DC Universe Online game instead. Going to be way better than City of Heroes.

FutureFoe, I [frick]ing love the Spaceman Spiff avatar!

CBMer's, If you don't like mmorpg's you won't like this game. I, however am a World of Warcraft fanatic, and I have played this game and EVE regularly. I haven't played CoH in a while, but I remember that my biggest problem with it was the power sets. There isn't enough customization in terms of a characters powers. Small things also aggravated me too, like how no matter how you make an energy based power-set character, their blasts are always purple. Why can't I make it green, or red. just small stuff like that. And the way the powersets work together, I could never quite make a character exactly how I wanted them. I confess though that no game can top WoW in my eyes.

EDIT: Holy rusted metal Batman! Did Hickman just comment on this article?! Doth mine eyes deceive me? I would just like to take this moment to say... [frick] YOU BulliedNerd! What we have to say IS important to the writers and higher ups in the industry. Thank you Mr. Hickman for allowing me to make that point ;)

Lmao, I have to share this with someone. I am just sitting at the computer coddling my baby boy watching this kiddy show Marvel Superhero Squad, this shit is hilarious. Hulk doing Pilates, Iron Man youtubing italian dining beavers...

Black Widow to Doc Doom: I have so many chocolates, should I start with the Caramel or the coconut?

Doc Doom: What kind of question is that?! The caramel of course. Coconut displeases me...

EDIT: sorry for spamming your article with this comment, but I laughed so hard I nearly pissed myself. Had to share it.

@ themyth

lol, i know what you mean, lol. super hero squad might be for kids, but i'll be damned if it isn't entertaining, lol. i just wish my baby girl was old enough to enjoy now.

TheMyth - 1/28/2010, 1:49 PM
Corndog, lol, yes people still play Everquest for christ sake. No one would play those MMO's if they became obsolete so fast. I've been playing Warcraft since right before Burning Crusade came out. I take breaks from the game, but I still love it and every few months, I go and get cracked out on it again for a quarter of the year lol.

Baulders Gate & ICE WINDALE is better than WOW LOL!

@ spock: i play all 3 and they are all good, but WoW is definatley better for long term play

and i dont play this game (although this is interesting news) but I just had to welcome TheMyth back. hope your feeling better sir and welcome back, youve have been missed :)

Great game, and fun arcs. CoH is - for me - the only MMO I could get into, and not just because of the subject matter (CO covers the same subject matter, and blows) but because of the awesome community, and the fact that the Devs communicate on a personal level with their players.

And to those surprised people still play it? Its not the behemoth that WoW is (and WoW isn't as big as they'd like you to think, either), but it still made 25 million for NCSoft last year. Sooo . . . yeah. People still play it.
Spock
Spock - 1/28/2010, 2:26 PM
@ real1stavenger, I hear, BioWare makes one of the best MMOs.
@ OP4, i think the reason in never played COH is because it looked cheesey to me & kind of takes away from the X-Men, but to each their own.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 1/28/2010, 3:13 PM
Spock, lol, I still play Baldur's Gate 2... a lot.

OptionFour, lol "(and WoW isn't as big as they'd like you to think, either)" ummm, how do you figure. I'd say over 10 million subscribers is quite a lot. You sound somewhat resentful.

RealfirstAvenger, Thank you sir! Are you alliance or horde?

For those of you that like MMO's, I recommend you try EVE, especially if your a hardcore Star Wars/Star Trek fan. It's loads of fun and very challenging.
TroyHickman
TroyHickman - 1/28/2010, 3:15 PM
Well, for me the game is relevant, as it's the only one I play. I've never been that much of a video game guy (outside of the odd zombie shooter). I'm mainly interested in the superhero genre, so I've played CoH for the last five years or so (before that I was an avid player of Freedom Force). Relevance is subjective, of course; I've played the paper and ink version of Champions for twenty-five years now, and I'm guessing our numbers have dwindled considerably, but as long as it floats my boat...
TheMyth
TheMyth - 1/28/2010, 3:38 PM
TroyHickmen, Perception is relative... indeed. I'll jumpstart my CoH account and check this new stuff out.

i own pvp, im resto and can deal serious damage while healing everyone, i love shamans :)
although I havent played for about 2 months since I moved, just started Mass Effect and dam is it awesome

who else is excited for the Trek MMO. i think the star wars one is going to be filled with Jedi from all the hardcore players and they will just murder all the casual players. the Trek one looks legendary

danzag - 1/28/2010, 4:01 PM
I hated the game. The quests are repetitive. The only good thing about it is there is no monthly fee to play.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 1/28/2010, 4:13 PM
@ danzag

really?? there was a monthly fee when i used to play it, but that was a long time ago. maybe they stopped because its been out for so long?

I play City of Heroes, and I lead two inter-related Super Groups. It's the only MMO that's gotten my interest, and it's gotten my dollars for the last 3 years. I'll have to check out Troy's arc when I get a chance. And yes, there's a monthly fee.

I'm not a big video game guy, having spent most of my life in pen and paper games like Heroes Unlimited or the old TSR-published Marvel Super Heroes. Video games are sorely lacking in comparison, and City of Heroes got my attention because of the customization options, which only get better the longer the game goes on. As an avid roleplayer, it's a big deal for me to see my characters have their own unique look. I don't really play many console games these days for that reason. Just not enough room for creativity.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 1/28/2010, 10:02 PM
realfirstavenger, For the Alliance! (nerd commandments and all...) Ihave an 80 Nelf Combat Rogue and an 80 Dranei Dualspec Shammy Resto/Elem. So I agree, Shaman RULE! I am a strict Raider. Only PvP I do is when some asshole Horde gets froggy and I spank 'em ;) I am psyched for the Trek MMO actually. I like EVE and I am thinking Trek could top it.
