The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Paramount Pictures has secured the rights to the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie which will be a hybrid of CGI characters and live-action. However, the most exciting reveal is the fact that Deadpool director Tim Miller is now attached to produce the movie, a sign perhaps that we can expect the same sort of offbeat tone as his R-Rated Marvel adaptation.

The video game movie also has a director in the form of Jeff Fowler and the VFX whiz will make his directorial debut here. "Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts," Miller said in a statement addressing the filmmaker's hiring. "The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for him to leverage his experience in animation to bring
new dimension to this iconic character."

Sonic made an appearance in Wreck-it-Ralph but this movie is obviously being used as a way to bring the iconic video game character back to the big screen in a major way. Sonic the Hedgehog's script was written by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller and while it still doesn't have a release date, it looks like work will begin shortly. Are you guys excited for the movie? Just gimmie an animated Mario with Danny DeVito as Mario and Tom Hanks as Luigi (it would be Robin Williams if he hadn't passed) please.

Hasn't Tim Miller's involvement as producer of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie been common knowledge for over a year now?

This is just an official confirmation of Jeff Fowler as director, really.

Are we gonna get an article sometime next year about how The Hollywood Reporter also reveals that he's directing the next three Terminator movies for producer James Cameron?

Anyway, I'm psyched. Hope they do the Dr. Kintobor origin for Eggman.

The Blue Blur is coming.

I'm so sad I'm not the one directing this movie, always been my dream to direct a feature length sonic movie.

I love Sonic and the idea of an animated film would interest me considering some of the stuff that's gone down in the Adventure games, Heroes and Unleashed... But a live-action/CGI hybrid just troubles me. Just like at the other properties that got adapted into the live-action/CGI hybrids, Garfield, the Surfs, Alvin and the Chipmunks, yeah no thanks. I know it a different creative team, but the world live-action just seems so unnecessary. Like some live-action Sonic X or something. :(

HUGE Sonic the Hedgehog fan growing up. My first gaming console was a SEGA Genesis and my brother and I had every Sonic game that was on there. So many good times as a kid.

Also, Sonic Adventure was one of the best Dreamcast games, hands down.

I can actually think of a way to pitch this and make it, you know, good. Anyone interested?

"However, the most exciting reveal is the fact that Deadpool director Tim Miller is now attached to produce the movie, a sign perhaps that we can expect the same sort of offbeat tone as his R-Rated Marvel adaptation." Who would EVER want this source material turned into the same kind of script as Deadpool? Yeah, let's just turn one of the most beloved family-friendly games into a cesspool of four-letter words, toilet humor, and boobs. Just like everyone who demands a Batman show on HBO. They're missing the point of comic books and the character in general.
