Never played an MMO game before, never been a fan of continually paying to play a game you've already payed for! DC Universe was close to changing my mind but this might just go that extra mile to sway me! I've been waiting for a KOTOR 3 for ever!

Old new dude.....these have been online for a while now.

But still nice to see...game looks great

And I for one would love to see a Star Wars ull length movie done in that style of Animation.

Does anyone know why Grif is always a dick? I thought the vid looked amazing. I think if they make three more movies, use CG all the way. This kinda CG, not Clone Wars style.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/23/2009, 11:12 AM
its a turn based role playing game, of course the action in the game isn't going to be as exciting as games where you actually control every movement of the character.

@ tobuttica

lol. grif doesn't like anything, but at least he's not a dick and constantly talking shit about people that do like it. so i'm fine with him, its his opinions just like we have ours

I think I would have enjoyed a kotor 3, I'm not a fan of continually paying for a game. I wish these MMO's had a solo offline version for those who don't care to pay subscription fees.

anyone else think that head sith guy looks like malek from kotor 1
Tobuttica
Tobuttica - 10/23/2009, 2:58 PM
I agree with that thwhtGuardian. What about the peeps out there that don't have a decent pc? We are fricked. I enjoyed the first two games, and have been waiting for KOTOR 3. Maybe they'll still deliver.

Looks sick, this looks like a must have game, all those siths coming out of the ship. This game alone is better than the whole Star Trek franchise

thwhtGuardian - I agree with all you just said 100%! KOTOR 3 would have been better and it DID look like Malek!

KOTOR 1&2 are two of my all time favourite games and I NEED a 3rd I can play without having to continually pay for what I've already paid for!

Old Republic Online takes place three-hundred years after KotOR - it isn't Malak.

And folks, the reason that MMOs require a subscription fee is to pay support staff, to run servers, and to develop new content. Even taking away overhead costs for the company like the above, consider this:

Even if you only manage to play four hours a week, that's sixteen hours a month, at a cost of fifteen dollars. That's less than a dollar an hour, and likely less than the price of seeing a movie and getting snacks ONCE in a month, which only provides two hours of entertainment. You're not going to find a better value. If you're a hardcore gamer and play more than that - even eight hours a week - you're now paying less than fifty cents per hour of entertainment. Its just not that expensive, comparatively. Especially considering a game like TOR has a start-up budget in the tens of millions, PLUS server and support costs. That is all money that needs to be made back before they even start to turn a profit.

As for non-RP chat on an RP server, it takes time to find the 'good' people in any community.

That fight scene in the trailer was truly Epic! Whoever director and scripted that should do reboot the last 3 Star Wars movies or the next Three.

OptionFour - You talk a good case! Like I've said, I may have to look into this when pricing is announced. I've never played an MMO so don't really know what bonuses there are compared to your average RPG (ie, KOTOR, Oblivion).

Thanks! If in doubt you can always wait until the inevitable free 14 day trial - everyone seems to do them eventually.
thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 10/25/2009, 6:34 PM
I get why you need to pay a subscription fee OptionFour, and i also get how it's not that expensive if you break it down. But I still can't justify the expense, because I can spend 40 on a regular game and not have to pay an extra cent for the countless hours of entertainment. I think that if they offered a few free months with the purchase of the game it might make it easier to justify, but it's usually just a few weeks of free play that come with the original purchase. I just think I should get a little more content up front, I mean I pay 40 bucks to install the program on my computer and get a few weeks of game time? When you buy the game you should get as much play time as the cost of that you payed for the soft wear.
OptionFour
OptionFour - 10/26/2009, 3:54 PM
Fair enough. Its not for everyone. Most games give you a free month, but you're right - that only comes to $15 worth of play time, not the fourty you pay for the box. Even counting in the cost of shipping, packaging, etc., you're right - two months play time with the box would come out to $30 credit, which still leaves ten or fifteen to cover other associated expenses for the company. That wouldn't be unreasonable at all.
