Curious as to where the live-action Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist web series stands? Here's an update from one of the creative forces behind the Capcom sanctioned adaptation. According to Ansah, he's headed to Bulgaria to finish up post-production. Particularly, Ansah says a lot of time has been invested into the VFX of the hadoken to make sure it's true to the source material yet retains a cinematic aesthetic. Work on the score, sound mix and sound design are also in the final stages. The team has teased a bunch of stills and looks at the ancillary characters from the production but expect to see a full on marketing blitz this Januray which will reveal Ken, Ryu, Akuma, etc. Till then, here's a behind-the-scens snap of Young Gouken, played by Shogen.

The story in Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist centers on the master of Ken and Ryu, Gouken, who himself trained under ‘Asatsuken (Assassin's Fist)' grandmaster Goutetsu. Also training under Goutetsu was the legendary Street Fighter villain, Akuma, who is Gouken's brother. In the web series Gouken reflects on how the Asatsuken sent he and his brother down conflicting paths of 'Light' and 'Dark' and whether he should pass along all of its secrets to Ken and Ryu. Will the same split that befell Gouken and Akuma occur with Ken and Ryu?
In addition to portraying Gōki/Akuma, Joey Ansah (The Bourne Ultimatum) served as director and co-wrote the script with Ken actor Christian Howard. Togo Igawa (Memoirs of a Geisha, The Last Samurai) will portray grandmaster Goutetsu. Mike Moh (Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight) plays Ryu. Hal Yamanouchi (The Wolverine) will portray Senzo. Akira Koieyama (Rush, 47 Ronin) plays Gouken. Mark Killeen (Game of Thrones) plays Ken's father. |
