Video games based on comic book characters have something of a rocky past. Sure, there were a few Spider-Man games that were enjoyable and those of a certain age will certainly have fond memories of the X-Men arcade game. But in terms of console games, the gems are few and far between. That is, until Rocksteady's Arkham Series burst on the scene in 2009. The series recently culminated in this year's Batman: Arkham Knight but don't expect a lull in DC Comics video game adaptations. In an interview with the Official PlayStation Blog, Kirshen spoke about what's coming next for WB Interactive and its DC Comics IPs. Said Kirshen, "When choosing what DC Entertainment IP we might focus on for any game, it boils down to honing in on the IPs that map the strongest, genre-wise, to what fans are interested in seeing and playing. From there, it’s about getting the development studios with the strongest passion for those IPs to make the games. "
On deciding on what character will come next, Kirshen acknowledged that the DC Comics (and Vertigo) roster is full of potential candidates. "It can be hard to choose what to focus on."
But don't expect there to be any sort of moratorium on Batman games in the meantime. "We don’t have anything to talk about at this time, but the possibilities are endless with a character as dynamic and beloved as Batman."
