Marvel Games will be officially stepping into the spotlight at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con 2018. While Marvel's movie division is skipping the convention, Marvel Comics, TV and Games will try to fill that void with, hopefully, some exciting announcements. And after Square Enix's "underwhelming" E3 2018 "conference", it would be nice to finally see what Crystal Dynamics' Avengers project is all about.

According to the description for the Marvel Games panel, "attendees will see exciting sneak peeks of Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel Powers United VR, and Marvel Battle Lines, with many unannounced surprises and panel exclusives." Marvel Games is producing games like Marvel: Strike Force (a mobile title for Android and iOS devices), Insomniac’s Spider-Man and the aforementioned Avengers project.

The panel will be hosted by Greg Miller (loudmouth at KindaFunny.com), who will be joined by Mike Jones (vice president & executive producer, Marvel Games), Bill Rosemann (executive creative director, Marvel Games), Bryan Intihar (creative director, Insomniac Games, Marvel's Spider-Man), and "others."

Marvel has announced that attendees can expect to see Spider-Man PS4, Marvel Powers United VR, Marvel Contest of Champions, Marvel Spider-Man Unlimited, Marvel Future Fight, and Marvel Puzzle Quest. Marvel Games' panel will be taking place on Thursday July 19 at 1:00 PM PDT in Hall H.

Starring one of the world’s most iconic Super Heroes, Marvel’s Spider-Man features the acrobatic abilities, improvisation and web-slinging that the wall-crawler is famous for, while also introducing elements never-before-seen in a Spider-Man game. From traversing with parkour and unique environmental interactions, to new combat and blockbuster action, it’s Spider-Man unlike any you’ve played before. Sony Interactive Entertainment, Insomniac Games, and Marvel have teamed up to create a brand-new and authentic Spider-Man adventure. This isn’t the Spider-Man you’ve met or ever seen before. This is an experienced Peter Parker who’s more masterful at fighting big crime in New York City. At the same time, he’s struggling to balance his chaotic personal life and career while the fate of millions of New Yorkers rest upon his shoulders.

Insomniac Games' Spider-Man will be released exclusively on PlayStation 4 on September 7, 2018.

Hopefully, they'll be announcing Fantastic Four (and to some extent, X-Men) updates for all of Marvel's mobile games.

Big brother is going to come down on the video game industry in the near future. I got an email from the Federal Bar Association yesterday promoting a CLE on "video gaming law", so it sounds like there's money to be made off it.

This course will cover an overview of key issues to understand in video game law. As the business models of the video game industry have evolved, so too have the legal issues. Successful games are often cloned, leading to various intellectual property issues and the need to develop comprehensive intellectual property protection strategies. As the games industry generates record profits year-after year, it has come under greater regulatory scrutiny. Many of the game mechanics driving these profits are alleged to involve gambling, such as chance-based mechanics, loot boxes and skins trading. The evolution of esports has unleashed the potential for even greater profit, but raises a whole new set of legal issues for game companies. Lastly, some blockchain-based crypto games have experienced overnight success. For now, most have escaped regulatory scrutiny, but various legal issues will likely arise.

@blackandyellow - I remember a few weeks ago, there was this mobile app I think by WB. It was discovered to have used codes & material from a Fallout app due to having similar bugs.

I’ve been following the loot box thing for years & I doubt anything will happen. The best chance of something happening was with Star Wars Battlefront 2 the past year & how badly EA [frick]ed up there. Ever since then, the loot box legal stuff in the US has died down along with bills being shut down. I know in Europe, some countries are banning loot boxes & stuff like that

I’m curious, any reason this is happening now? It should’ve happened when there was heat from EA for BF2 but again in US, that has died down.

I know these laws likely won’t effect Spider-Man as the game director said there will be no loot boxes or microtransactions

@blackandyellow - The sad thing is that I'm actually looking forward to big brother coming down on the video games industry...

I mean, would it be great if the government could keep their hands off of the industry, and allow it to regulate itself? Yes, I would be all for that... Except for the fact that in recent times they've proven that they're putting profit over the experience.

Now, I know gaming is a business, and it's supposed to make money (I have not problem with that). It's just like how you've mentioned in your post with the scummy practices of lootboxes, and microtransactions... Even day one DLC which isn't bad compared to the other greedy practices that they have done (and possibly will do), but it's up there in terms of being bad for the industry.

The only reason why they're able to get away with it is because as you said, our laws are antiquated, and these companies weasel their way around it... I could go on, but I would be rambling at this point (actually deleted a whole paragraph cause I started going off more than I needed to =P).

@blackandyellow - I can definitely see something happening with loot crates and pay to win platforms that a lot of games exploit. Part of the issue is kids play the majority of these games and when signing up for new accounts on X-Box, iTunes/Apple, Facebook, Android, etc is how you need to enter a valid credit card. It doesn't bill it immediately but being that there is one linked to every account without you being able to remove it entirely is an issue because kids then charge up their parents cards without them realizing until the bill comes in. There are some slight protections but not enough. I know I had my iTunes CC expire not long ago and I couldn't update my apps until I put in a new one. The apps I was updating were completely free though so there shouldn't have been the need to have updated billing info. You hear more and more about kids who are wracking up thousands on their parents CC's though and they have a right to dispute charges since they weren't authorized, technically. So the vendors are losing money because Visa will kick it back to the consumer/customer. That is just the tip of the iceberg but I suspect that will be or has been one of the issues that is getting the government to step in. Once they start looking they'll see a ton of problems much bigger than that and launch a full scale investigation. It won't end well for developers and even though I'm fine with them getting screwed in a way, I also realize they won't feel the brunt of it because the bigger companies will pass it on down to the consumer and the smaller companies will fold.
