ROGUE ONE Star Donnie Yen Confirms SLEEPING DOGS Movie Adaptation Is "In Motion"
According to Chinese actor and martial artist Donnie Yen, a movie adaptation based on Square Enix and United Front Games'action-adventure video game Sleeping Dogs is moving along in production.
Last year, it was reported that a movie based on Square Enix and United Front Games' action-adventure video game Sleeping Dogs was in development. It took some time, but it finally sounds like production is moving along. Chinese actor and martial artist Donnie Yen took to Instagram this weekend to share the exciting news that the Sleeping Dogs movie adaptation is officially "in motion."
Yen, who recently appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is set to star in the film's lead role of Wei Shen, an undercover Hong Kong-American police officer who infiltrates and attempts to take down a criminal organization from the inside. Production company Original Films (Fast and Furious) will produce the adaptation of Sleeping Dogs.
Sleeping Dogs was originally released in 2012 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Though it received generally favorable reviews and went on to sell 1.75 million copies, it failed to live up to Square Enix's sales expectations. In 2013, the publisher announced that Sleeping Dogs, alongside Tomb Raider and Hitman: Absolution, had been considered "failures."
Interestingly, Tomb Raider - another Square Enix property - is also getting a movie adaptation, so perhaps it pays to be a failure.
