Will Hollywood finally manage to get a Gears of War movie up and running? There have been several attempts at a live-action adaptation of Microsoft's sci-fi video game over the years, with New Line and director Len Wiseman coming closest - but since the rights lapsed it's remained in development hell... until now.

According to THR, Universal has now optioned the rights to bring Marcus Fenix and the Locust Horde to the big screen, with Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark producing via their production company, Bluegrass Films. The project doesn't have a director or writer attached yet, so probably best not to get too excited until more progress is made.

Thoughts? Gears of War 4 will be released for XBox 1 and Windows 10 on October 11.

Universal making another video game movie? They should cast an all asian cast if they want this movie to do well.

@MattBellissimo - First game was on PC as well. It's good material for some gritty action movie set in post apocalyptic world of planet Sera.
Game was fun third person shooter with some good characters and atmosphere of destroyed planet. Not to mention it was this game that introduced good cover system.

@MattBellissimo - wild adventure of a team of military special forces that have to save the world from a hidden threat. The story was very compelling and the characters were rich (except for Marcus which is probably why they are not using his story)
