Wanted Producer: "Still Talks of a Sequel"

Wanted producer says a sequel is still being discussed and that the franchise could continue, even without the star power of Angelina Jolie.

Timur Bekmambetov, who was the man behind the camera for the first film, is currently filming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, so when MTV was able to get a few moments with Wanted producer, Jim Lemley, they asked him about the status of the sequel to the Angelina Jolie starred film. His response maintains the rumors we've been hearing: that a sequel could still happen. Angelina Jolie has stated that her character is dead and that she would not be returning for a sequel and here is what Lemley had to say about the topic:

"We still talk sometimes about 'Wanted 2,'" he told MTV News. "We want to try and continue that story because it's a very interesting one for us. The reality is we love [Jolie] and we'd love to do it with her, but also that story has such a big idea behind it that it can also go on without her."

Having said that, one has to wonder whether or not the film would still have the same draw without Jolie. Wanted was a surprise hit at the Box Office and provided viewers with some rather stunning cinematography, and a few other...ahem...."views" that had people talking.

James McAvoy, who starred alongside Jolie in the film, can be seen in X-Men: First Class starting June 3rd.

Hate to double-post, but...

@Nephillim Go to your comic store and buy the trade for Wanted. Read it. Then tell whoever told you that it was a "wannabe Watchmen & Kingdom Come rip-off" that they fail at life.

Excellent, excellent book. I dunno if I'd hold it in as high a regard as Watchmen or Kingdom Come, but it's certainly one of my all-time favorite reads. The movie doesn't do it proper justice by any stretch of the imagination. I enjoyed the film before reading the comic and enjoyed it quite a bit, but after reading the comic and re-watching the film, I sold the DVD.

hey Neph if you never read the comic how in the hell can say something as far off as "wanna be watchmen & kingdom come rip off" when that is soooo far what the comic was. That shit was a super hero version of fight club period.

Yeah, I still talk about being in a chocolate covered sex sandwich with two hot sexy girls.

Doesn't mean it's going to happen though does it!

If they want Jolie so bad they have a perfect plot for a prequel about Wesley's dad.

Best thing about Wanted was Jolie's ass!! Other than that the movie was trash. Wait I did like Morgan Freeman's line about "Killing this Mutha F*cker!!!"

Unless its a completely different team, we don't need a sequel/prequel?
