A WITCHBLADE Reboot Is In The Works At NBC From Carol Mendelsohn And Caroline Dries
There's been talk of some sort of Witchblade adaptation for years now, but after trying and failing with Constantine, NBC is having another crack at comic books by taking on this property...
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that NBC is moving forward with a small screen adaptation of Marc Silvestri's Witchblade. The network has paired up with Carol Mendelsohn (CSI) and Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) to bring the Top Cow comic book to the small screen, and the latter is penning the script and will executive produce alongside her fellow The Vampire Diaries scribe Brian Young.
According to the trade, Witchblade will, "focus on homicide detective Sara Pezzini, on the hunt for an elusive serial killer, who must navigate the grisly streets and police politics of San Francisco’s Mission District — until one day the bracelet she has worn her entire life gives her supernatural insight into a crime she’s trying to solve. Her bracelet is the Witchblade, an amulet that has been worn by remarkable women throughout history, and Sara is next in line." So, pretty close to the comic books!
Top Cow founder/owner Silvestri and Matt Hawkins will also executive produce, and it's thought that Witchblade could take the place of Grimm on Friday evenings. This isn't the first TV show based on the property as a version actually aired on TNT starring Yancy Butler for two seasons in 2001 - 2002. A movie was in the works at one point, but it never came to be, so all hope now lies on this iteration.
