Professor Marston and The Wonder Women, a 1940’s period biopic about Wonder Woman creator Dr. William Moulton Marston, is scheduled for limited release for October 13, 2017. Starring Luke Evans as Dr. William Moulton Marston and Rebecca Hall as his wife Elizabeth. The film explores how his secret polyamorous relationship with his wife Elizabeth and their mistress Olive Byrne portrayed by Bella Heathcote and his fascination with sadomasachism became an inspiration for the comic book character Wonder Woman.

The lifestyle that Marston and his muses chose to live was seen by many at the time as controversial but in recent years as opinions have changed it has come to be seen as a sign of emerging women’s empowerment over their own sexuality. Characterized by his wife and their partner, history now sees their relationship as an example of two empowered women who defied the social conventions of their time assisting Marston in both his human behavior research and the development of his comic books.

The film comes months after the subject of Martson’s work - Wonder Woman - has received renewed interest following the theatrical release of the live action film of the same name. The film has become an international box office success buoyed by its themes of women’s empowerment as well as traditional heroism. The character of Wonder Woman was introduced to the world in 1941 and in its over 75 years has endured as one of the most iconic heroines in any fantasy genre continuing to be featured in popular comic books and becoming the subject of the cult favorite 1970s TV show Wonder Woman headlined by actress Lynda Carter. Written and directed by Angela Robinson, Professor Marston and The Wonder Women is being released by Annapurna Pictures.
