WONDER WOMAN 1984 Costume Designer Lindy Hemming On Outfitting [SPOILER] In The Mid-Credits Scene - EXCLUSIVE

In the world of costume design, Lindy Hemming is a legend. Her work is arguably unrivalled, something that's evident from what we've seen in the James Bond movies (from Goldeneye to Casino Royale), Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy, and both Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984

With the sequel now available to rent on Premium Video on Demand in the UK, we recently had the opportunity to speak to Lindy about her work on the DC Comics adaptation. As well as confirming that she'll return for Wonder Woman 3, we also took this opportunity to ask her about the work that went into creating a striking look for Lynda Carter's Asteria in the sequel's mid-credits scene.

"I’ve got to say, blowing my own trumpet, that everything everybody wore in that film, particularly the principal actors, was made. We made it in our workshop. Lynda Carter was no different," Hemming explains. "We made everything that she was going to wear, and the blue cloak took quite a lot of playing around with. We didn’t want it to look like it was a superhero cloak."

"At the same time, we wanted there to be a moment of doubt in the viewer’s mind about who it is and what they’re seeing. We couldn’t make it red, and Wonder Woman is red, blue, and gold, so in the end, we decided on that very, very vivid blue. That would stand out from the crowd she’s walking through, and make your 'psychic mind' think it was Wonder Woman (we even made her hair the same). It was a lot of designing for that simple, throw over the shoulder poncho.

"[Lynda] liked it! She liked it and was happy with it," she concludes. "Of course, she also had to wear very high heels, so she had that little tinge of Diana going on."

This mid-credit scene was a great surprise for fans, and seeing Lynda Carter back in the world of Wonder Woman was a real treat. The hope is that it might lead to an appearance in Wonder Woman 3, with Diana Prince teaming up with Asteria (who can relate to being on her own in the world).

Time will tell on that front, but let us know your thoughts on this cameo - and the costume - below!

Wonder Woman 1984 is available to rent on Premium Video on Demand from 13th January.

It didn't look like anything too special for me, looked like a blue dress.
But her cameo was very very welcome.

Hope she gets to play a bigger part in part 3, like having her as co-lead instead of Chris Pine

I love Linda Carter. We share the same birthday.

That being said, her appearance was so forced and out of place and made no sense.

This movie just pisses me off.

So little to talk about when it comes to this movie. Hard to say if there is more good or bad in it.

Nothing was really good enough to write home about
Nothing was really bad enough to hate

Id say the best part of the film was the opening on the island. Thats really the only part that got really any reaction out of me. Kind of is the superman returns of wonder woman movies (superman returns did have that awesome plane save)

@dracula - I expected the movie to be WAAAAAY worse than people made it out to be. But it's actually a fun ride with some hiccups along the way.
But it's certainly not "one of the worst CBMs ever made" as some titled it.

Solid 6/10 from me

Linda Carter’s inclusion was definitely a bright spot. I may have largely disliked the movie but that scene definitely brought a smile to my face

When Wonder Woman's daughter also looks like Wonder Woman:

The movie is fine for what it is; an early 80's throwback more interested in its point than the internal logic of the plot. In some ways, it feels like JJ Abrams made it, in that regard. Out of context, most of it is enjoyable. In context, you have to turn your brain off a little more than most people are comfortable with.

As far as Lynda Carter goes... I'd be perfectly comfortable if they out her on money. I love that woman.

@BackwardGalaxy - *put her on money. I hate my phone.

There's not a great reason why Asteria, couldn't have been in the movie more. In the next Wonder Woman movie, I really wanna see Patty Jenkins focus a lot more on the supporting cast.

Sky High deserves way more attention than it's gotten over the years.

Imagine being a costume designer with the last name Hemming. It was meant to be.

On another topic:

Another actress died. Havent seen her in much but yeah she was good in freaks and geeks

Asteria should absolutely not be in the 3rd one. She had a role in this one and Carter got her cameo, which was one of the best nods we've gotten in a cameo, but her role is finished.
