Wonder Woman was widely hailed as one of the best comic book movies of all time when it was released in 2017. The sequel, however, was widely panned despite initially debuting to overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics. Tonally, Wonder Woman 1984 was a massive departure from its predecessor, and it just didn't work.
Rumour has it that Wonder Woman 3 - which was first announced in 2019 - will take place in the present day, finally focusing on Diana Prince in the here and now rather than the past.
Talking at the Matera Film Festival, director Patty Jenkins shared an update with fans on where things currently stand with the threequel. "I just wrote last week the final scene for Wonder Woman 3 and I thought, 'I'd be interested to see what happens next," she said, addressing the franchise's future.
"They have asked us to think of ways to do more and it accidentally happens, but you never know. I have a lot of other films I'm excited to do as well."
Clearly, Warner Bros. is keen for more Wonder Woman in the DCEU, with Gal Gadot reprising the role. Whatever Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has in store for this shared world with his so-called plan, there's obviously a place for the heroes from the "SnyderVerse" era as well.
Jenkins was supposed to shoot Rogue Squadron prior to Wonder Woman 3, but it's apparent that the director's Star Wars movie is no longer happening (at least not with her at the helm).
