It's unclear where the signals got crossed, but Variety is reporting that Wonder Woman 3 is not moving forward at Warner Bros.
Sources told Variety that outside of the Paradise Lost HBO Max series, there are no plans for Wonder Woman to appear in Chapter One: Gods and Monsters- the DC Studios reboot of Zack Snyder's DCEU.
We here at CBM would caution that due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, actors and actresses are not allowed to promote or discuss past, current, or upcoming films. Meaning the recent quotes from Gal Gadot were likely made months ago.
That's due to the fact that the recent quotes from Gadot concerning Wonder Woman 3 are spinning out of interviews Gadot did to promote her upcoming Netflix action piece, Heart of Stone, which will be released by the streamer on August 11. Press junkets often occur in the middle of filming, meaning these interviews likely took place during this past Spring.
Standard studio embargo rules would limit the various press outlets and blogs that are granted access to the cast and crew from publishing their interviews and set pieces until a few weeks before the film is released, in an effort to drum up publicity.
Still, it's odd that Gadot would misinterpret a sit-down meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Gadot's most recent comments were, "I was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and what they told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman— you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ So time will tell.”
With Superman: Legacy creating a new DC film canon, and Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck not moving forward with their respective roles as Superman and Batman, it was always somewhat baffling that Gadot would be the lone Trinity member to forge ahead.
Variety adds that while a meeting between Gadot, Gunn, and Safran did take place, nothing was ever promised to Gadot nor "where there any definitive discussion of Gadot’s Wonder Woman continuing with the new DC Universe."
With the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike, it might be a while before any camp is able to offer any clarity on the situation. Although Gunn may weigh in on Twitter or Threads.
Be sure to check back for future updates on the situation as this likely isn't the last we'll hear from Gadot's camp or the studio.
