GAMBIT Gets An Official Release Date; Fox's X-Men Spinoff Will Hit Theaters On Valentine's Day 2019

20th Century Fox has announced that the upcoming Gambit movie starring Channing Tatum as the titular Cajun hero will open on Valentine's Day 2019, meaning, of course, that this was the mystery movie the studio had previously announced for Feb. 14 of that year.

We recently found out that Gore Verbinski had entered early talks to direct the X-Men spinoff, and it looks like those negotiations were successful as he appears to have signed on.

Gambit has had so many false starts that many fans had written it off altogether, but this is obviously a very good sign that things are moving forward satisfactorily.

We still don't have any confirmed plot details, but if recent rumors turn out to be accurate, Mr. Sinister will be the movie's big bad.

@Highflyer - same here, was totally against it for the longest time but I’m holding some faith in him. right unlike most on this site I was a huge Gambit fan, always read his solo series and was second to only wolverine on the animated show.

@Highflyer - This is true. I think this has been the working title since back in 2015 when Rupert Wyatt was attached.
