How to incorporate mutants into the MCU without continuity problems

Everyone wants to see the X-Men in the MCU and now it might become a reality. Check out my idea to have mutants in the MCU without any continuity problems.

Every nerd dreams of a day when we can see Wolverine fighting alongside Hulk or Captain America. Who wouldn’t want to see Xavier meeting Iron Man or Nick Fury? Thanos vs Apocalypse! Lately, there’s rumours going around that imply that Disney will buy FOX, but it’s still unclear. But in the hypothetical case that Marvel did get the movie rights back, we would face a bigger problem: How do you introduce mutants in the MCU? If they’ve existed all along, why has nobody adressed their existence? And if they’ve just begun to exist, then does Xavier’s mansion exist yet? And what about the inhumans, wouldn’t it be repetitive to have two opressed minorities of super-powered beings?

MY IDEA

In my version, mutants have existed all along but only as a minicule minority. It was in the 20th century when they started to exponentially grow in numbers. They were still very small, but a certain group of people saw them as a threat to their plans: HYDRA. They also saw them as freaks and genetic cheaters, far from the aryan perfection they defended. During WW2, mutants were imprisoned in the concentration camps, although a certain boy escaped, a boy named Magnus. As SHIELD, HYDRA went on a witch hunt through the 20th and 21st century, killing every mutant they could find, using Winter Soldier as one of those hunters. That’s why nobody has mentioned them yet. Hydra also revealed the secret to some people to get help in their cause, like some hateful figures of the govt. (Senator Stryker) and evil corporations (TRASK). They also tried to control some mutants by infiltrating govt. branches such as Weapon Plus (derived from the Super-Soldier programm). Xavier and Magneto met fighting Strucker and Hydra, which is actually how they met in the comics. Then, Magneto had two children: Pietro and Wanda, who would later be experimented on by Hydra.

Xavier created the school for gifted youngsters to secretly protect mutants from these various threats. He kept it all under the radar because he knew how much power HYDRA and their allies had. He also created the first teenage genesys of the X-Men to fight back. In fact, the X-Men skipped their agenda to also participate in the battle for New York, but they stayed under the radar and also the fight was too big for them, so they retreated early.

In 2014, the HYDRA secret was revealed to the world. Captain America and the Avengers and Coulson’s SHIELD fought HYDRA to a point where they were no longer a such a big thread. Their allies (TRASK, Stryker, etc) are still active but they’re not as efficient without their directive. The secret mutant genocide stopped and mutants began to grow in nubers once more. The govt. decrypts the leaked HYDRA files and find out about the mutant genocide. They decide to keep it a secret. Then, the incident in Lagos happens, and the Sokovian Accords are created. That’s when more concern over supoerpowered beings starts to rise.

Now, if Marvel aquired the movie rights, mutants would pop up in the MCU world during Phase 4 or 5 (202?), when HYDRA has been practically dead for some years now and mutants have already grown in numbers once more. I don’t know what the status of the Sokovian Accords will be during that time, but lets say it’s scrapped but the govt. is still pushing for it. Once mutants have become really prominent again, the public gets concerned over superpowered beings once more, so the govt. sees the opportunity to implant the Accords one more time, but this time only for mutants, which seems more “reasonable” in the public eye. Magneto finds out about this and becomes really angry. Not only because of that, but also because the govt. has never admitted the HYDRA mutant holocaust. Magneto creates the Brotherhood and becomes a terrorist, so concern over mutants grows even more. Xavier begins to house even more mutants and creates the second genesis of the X-Men, now public heroes.

TRANSLATION TO MOVIE CONTENT

Keep in mind that mutants have been growing in the MCU since HYDRA’s destruction at the end (At the end of CA:TWS, A:AoU or AoS S3, depending on how you look at it).
· Doctor Strange sequel: Scarlet Witch would have a small role in Strange’s new adventure and she would join the sorcerers. The end-credit-scene plays out this way:
We see that Black Panther is doing some tests on Wanda. Once he finishes, he talks to Strange. Then, they both adress her.
STRANGE: Your powers are very extent, Wanda: From mind-control to illusion projection. From energy manipulation to telekinesis.
WANDA: Yes
STRANGE: Now, those powers come from magical energies that the mind stone granted you... Or at least that’s what we thought at the beggining.
BLACK PANTHER: It appears that the magical-based powers that you have were side-effects of the experiments that you took part in. A big part of your abilities come from you genetic code, but those anomalies in your genome have always been there. So it appears as if the experiments also awakened an innate part of you.
WANDA: So you’re saying, in a way, i was born this way?
BLACK PANTHER: Yes.
WANDA: But how is that possible?
BLACK PANTHER: We don’t know yet, but we’re gonna find out...

· Black Panther sequel: I’d love to see Atlantis vs Wakanda in this film. If you didn’t know, Namor is actually half-mutant in the comics, so his weird genetic cocktail could actually be mentioned in the film. Then, the post-credit-scene would introduce an early version of the Illuminati. Black Panther and Dr.Strange bring up something very important:
BLACK PANTHER: Humanity is entering its new genetic phase. A new phenomena is hiting the world: Mutants.

· Captain Marvel sequel: This film would set up the mutants with a brief scene of an alien race talking about the threat of earth. We’d hear some comments concerning humanity’s constant genetic manipulation, alien interaction, usage of dangerous magic...etc. Finally, they would mention the fact that they’re “mutating into a new genetic phase” (showing certain holograms that would include Scarlet Witch) “which makes them even more dangerous”.

· Ant-Man 3: I believe the Ant-Man franchise is going to focus on SHIELD and HYDRA (or at least i think it should). I believe this for several reasons:
1. Hank Pym used to work for SHIELD, so we can get a lot fo SHIELD history from that.
2. Mitchell Carson, the HYDRA agent inside SHIELD, survived the last film, so they will probably continue that plot thread.
3. The’ve cast SHIELD agent Jimmy Woo for the sequel.
I think this threequel should be the game-changer. This is the movie in which mutants in the MCU would be explained: Hydra has been killing mutants all this time. We could even see some flashbacks/pictures of Winter Soldier assassinating some of them. At the end of the movie, all of this info is revealed to the public, and at the end-credit-scene, we see Xavier for the first time.

· Spiderman sequel:
We get introduced to J.Jonah Jameson, who hates people with superpowers. We hear Jameson saying the word “mutants” a couple of times in the film. It’s official. Maybe we could see the Scorpion go against spiderman (hired by Jameson) and the Sokovian Accords being pushed again. This puts Spiderman in a difficult position, as he doesn’t feel like people want him anymore. So he has to choose between a being hated hero or leting people die because of his inaction.

· Uncanny X-Men:
Mutants are a big political issue now. We learn more about them through Xavier’s and Magneto’s past. We also get flashbacks of the first genesys fighting in New York, etc. The new genesys gets created and the X-Men become public heroes. The new Sokovian Accords get implemented (now called the mutant registration act).

Huh? I’m not sure how I feel about this. There are definitely pros and cons if this were to go through. The biggest pro is that all the Marvel characters would finally be under one roof. But then the MCU would be insanely “crowded.” Though, if indeed, the main Avengers bite the dust in Infinity War or A4, that would leave plenty of room to introduce the X-Men and the Fantastic 4 into the timeline. Although with Thanos [frick]ing shit up, it would most likely be an alternate timeline, where the Avengers never existed. Also, the cinematic X-Men, right now, are much more darker and serious than the MCU. I don’t think I would like to see an X-Men action-comedy movie (aside from Deadpool, but even that is rated R, which Disney would not green light). But who knows, there’s a 50/50 chance of it working.

@SilentT - Or even introduce the multiverse.

No. Fox has gone into things like time travel that the MCU is to an extent avoiding. Look at the way that was handled in Dr. Strange. There was a total time rewind in that case as opposed to the more traditional types of travel. Its clear that MCU is embracing that particular topic like it was a discussion about the sex lives of your grand parents.

@JDL - but i didn't say anything about time travel

@BaronZemo - I don't see embracing the Fox X-Men without buying into time travel. YMMV.

@JDL - But i didn't say anything about embracing the Fox X-Men, this is a reboot

@BaronZemo - Ah I see. Well to be honest I don't think a reboot is doable financially. The costs are too high for the average movie in the franchise.
