Kevin Feige On Whether X-MEN & FANTASTIC FOUR Acquisitions Sped-Up MCU Multiverse Plans

The Multiverse is going to play a major role in the MCU moving forward, and Kevin Feige has now revealed whether Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox's characters influenced the studio's plans.

Disney's 2017 acquisition of 20th Century Fox's stable of Marvel Comics characters laid the groundwork for a dramatic shift in the MCU, and the recent addition of the Multiverse opened the door for The X-Men and Fantastic Four to make their long-awaited debuts.

Since the exploration of these alternate realities and timelines only really began to take shape after the acquisition, it's fair to wonder whether the impending introduction of a whole host of new characters sped-up the studio's plans to implement the Multiverse, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

While chatting to Collider, Kevin Feige revealed that while the "toys that were added to the toybox increased with that Fox acquisition," it didn't actually influence the time-frame.

"I think the Ancient One mentions it in Doctor Strange 1, when she's taking Stephen Strange through that mind-warping journey," he began. "And it was always one of the most powerful storytelling tools in the comics - one you have to wield carefully, because it can get overwhelming, but one that now with the 80 year history of the comics, now we have a 20 plus history of the movies, and there are enough characters that we can start playing with it that way."

In a separate interview with Screen Rant, Feige promised that more announcements are coming.

"There'll be news. There'll be various events. Obviously with the pandemic, the way we've announced things has changed and altered, and in some ways that's been good, because it's kept the focus on what's next," he said. "It's kept the focus on the projects as they come out, and certainly the anticipation for No Way Home, I would say, is as big as anything we've ever felt before, which is good timing as the movie's about to come out."

We know Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts has signed on to helm a Fantastic Four reboot (though updates have been pretty much non-existent since the announcement), but we still have no idea what Feige and co. have in store for The X-Men. Hopefully, the likes of No Way Home, Doctor Strange 2 and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania shed some more light on Marvel Studios' plans for these iconic characters.

Come on Feige, PLEASE! Just say who's playing the F4 already, I'm losing it.

I don't want the X-men to be introduced via the multiverse at all. I was hoping to never have to see the fox-men again.

Then again I would love the Raimi-verse to continue haha

@TheManWithoutFear - yeah I really hope the X-Men and F4 are native to the MCU when they're introduced and not at all multiverse-related.

@TheDoctor1225 - 2024 makes sense, given how many other movies we're also supposed to get in the meantime. November seems a probability

Neither really need to be connected to the multiverse anyway. Yeah they are moments in the comics they are, but not every corner of the MCU has to tie to the multiverse

Feige got his start, working on the FoX-Men movies. So there could be some nostalgia there. But I still think the X-Men will have to be a hard reboot. Which means, recasting every role.

X-men should be hard reboot in the MCU. They can tie it in someway to Scarlet Witch via a version of House if M maybe.

FF4 could come from the multiverse and arrive in the MCU verse.

Marvel needs Fantastic Four as much as it needed Spider-Man. They need to let people know it's a priority, but I don't think any legacy characters are going to be a priority after Spider-MAn No Way Home.

I would have it both ways, reboot the main X team(Ciclops,Logab, Beast, Jean) in the MCU movies but continue some fringe minor characters concepts from the Fox movies/shows (Blink,Cable, X-23, Negasonic,Legion, Chris Evans Human Thorch, etc.)on a Exiles show live action or animated.

I known they're going to do the XMen finally right (in my eyes) but man, I am SOOOOOO curious how they're introduced.

On one hand it's crazy to think we will get various heroes from Marvel Entertainment properties possibly appearing in the multiverse war. But at the same time I hope it doesn't negate Marvel Studios from producing a Marvel Studios version of X-Men and so on. Someone mentioned before that No Way Home including Sony's versions of some villains may negate Marvel Studios from exploring their own versions which I feel may be true.

Lazy writing if they just shoe horn in the Fox version of X-men and blame it on the Multiverse. They are introducing new characters all the time that weren't around for phase 1, why can't they come up with an original story that has had them here the whole time?
