Over the past week or so, a few srticles have been written explaining ways to adapt the fan-favorite Old Man Logan story. Its difficult to do because FOX only owns X-Men and Fantastic Four, most whom are dead. Many main characters in this story belong to MARVEL Studios and Disney. The Wolverine incorporated elements of Old Man Logan with Wolverine: Logan and the Claremont-Miller series, so I think its best to do this again. I'm not saying this is a Wolverine sequel, because the more I thought it out, the more it became a team film.
We start off a few years or decades into the future. In flashbacks or voice-overs, it is revealed that after the setinels, mutant kind has become extinct. We get a scene showing Logan is living with Mariko and Yukio back in Japan. The next day, someone comes to the door. Here's where the film can go one of two ways:
1. An old friend/enemy (Gambit, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Sabretooth, etc)
2. A team (X-Men or X-Force)
Whoever it is informs Logan that the first mutant birth in decades is about to happen, and that if the baby isn't taken some place safe, the government will kill it or train it to hunt down the remaining mutants. Mariko convinces Logan to go. In America, Logan meets the rest of the team (or small group of remaining X-Men) and they plot to find the mother. A telepath (Cable, Emma Frost, Psylocke) uses a type of Cerebro to pinpoint her location and move out.
Along the way, they encounter government agents, government strike forces, and even mutants working for the government. Also, throw in a team of mutants who want the baby for evil purposes. Then we'll get fights, deaths, all the good stuff. In the end, Logan and whoever is left of his team take the mother back to the safe house so she can have the baby. All of this gives Logan hope (see what I did there) to either form a new team or stick with this one.
As I said earlier, this turned into a film meant for a team such as X-Force, but I think it could still work as a solo/duo mission.
For reference, I combined the continuing storyline of The Wolverine and the Days of Future Past films with the Old Man Logan and Messiah Trilogy from X-Men comics. What do you think?
