A quick interview with Hugh Jackman while at an "Australia" junket got the latest word on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, PLUS a bit about the direction of a sequel.

Talk quickly turned to X-Men Origins: Wolverine and future Wolverine projects. Will there be more Wolverine films? Does Jackman want to reprise the role again? Can he keep that tight, tanned, toned body....whew, slow down Betty....back on track - does he want to reprise the role of Wolverine after the release of the Origins film?

Hugh said laughing, “Absolutely, but we'll see how things turn out after May 3.”

Yes, by the end of opening weekend, 20th Century Fox will certainly know if the new X-Men Origins franchise is a hit. Hopefully propelling X-Men Origins: Magneto full speed ahead and also giving us a Wolverine sequel. But, would it be a direct sequel to the Origins prequel or a follow up to X-Men 3?

“It would be a sequel to Origins,” confirmed Jackman.

And what storyline would Hugh like to explore? As he has said before, the Japanese story lines are something he'd like for the character to delve into.

I'm just glad this movie isn't coming out soon. I'll know by the time this movie comes out if Watchmen is coming out or not. Then I'll definitely know if I can see this one. I had trouble skipping Max Payne because I thought it looked awesome, but this one would be way harder. (FOX sucks; Watchmen rules!)

Fox has taken things way too far with the whole legal deal, BUT i'm not going to boycott a companies movie because they want to be douchetastic about another...Watchmen is going to come out...There's no doubt about that in my mind. Wolverine is going to be an amazing flick, Not too thrilled about Will.I.Am and Kestrel...but it oculd be cool. Much as I wasn't thrilled about Gabriel Macht as The Spirit, but these things will pass. I am quite diggin Liev Shreiber as Victor Creed, and Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson. Going to be, as Peter Griffin would say "Freakin' sweet!"

I look forward to every CBM that comes out and either I'm pleased or disapointed after them. I like to see and own them all regardless. I own all the hulk movies including the three bill bixby ones, all the batman movies including the adam west one and the animated ones, every CBM you can think of, I own. Doesn't mean I love them all, its just a collection. I'm dying to see watchmen and wolverine

Not to put any down or anything but isn't it pretty stupid to boycott Fox movies (one of the above posters stated he's upset that he had to miss Max Payne because it looked so good) b/c of the legal B.S that's going down about Watchmen the movie. I'm a big fan of Watchmen but I'm not going to skip or boycott any movie that I might be interested in b/c of some legal battle that I have nothing to do with. You're a movie-goer, a film fan, film buff whatever NOT a legal consultant or studio head, don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

WOLVERINE is going to be great. Maybe not Dark Knight great but at least Iron Man great.

I know its stupid to boycott FOX movies, but they're a bunch of douche nozzles. If they were just sueing the movie I wouldn't care but they are trying so it never gets released. I know that's highly unlikely and boycotting will do nothing to prevent it, but its just cool to say that I'm doing it as a fan.

Although I think I'm gonna miss The Day the Earth Stood Still :(

i had a comment typed out as to why i didnt think this movie would be good. and then i accidently clicked a banner on the bottom of the screen and now its gone.

oh well, im goign to see the movie but i have low expectations.

I do hope they touch upon some of the problems about the character that was showcased in the X-Men movies. Such as longer claws, they should be the length of Jackman's forearm. In the X films they looked hokey a lot of the time. A more accurate depiction of his fighting prowess. He got man-handled and blind sided too much by lower class mutants/thugs that he should be able to fold up like lawn furniture without breaking a sweat. Some berserker fury would be nice too.

That aside, I'm torn. I know it's a FOX movie and my expectations for this film is right at the level of X2. No more or no less, no excuse to be less.
I'm an old school fan of Wolverine and I'm glad he's finally getting the solo movie treatment (of sorts). I'd also like it to be done well so that it doesn't completely ass-yawn all over my lap but at the same time I sort of want it to not "wow" movie goers so FOX will be more inclined to drop the franchise back in the hands of Marvel Studios.

the best part is that Hugh became a fan of Wolverine he's not just some actor trying to make some money he actually likes Wolverine and said he was willing to play it over and over, well that's what he said the last time I read a article before this one :)

Let's all hope Jackman is a big enough fanboy to persuade FOX to give the rights of the X-men and wolverine francises back to MARVEL.
Shaman

Okay dudes, If Fox doesn't want to drop a stupid idiotic lawsuit against WB about Watchmen, then there's nothing on god's green earth that could happen to make them give away their bread and butter being Wolverine. It just ain't gonna happen. Doesn't matter how much we want them to, it's like telling them "hey guys, mind saying no to mo'money and giving up x-men and wolverine back to marvel?". Plus they're so anal about "the buck" that other rival companies are makin that even IF wolerine blew chunks on the big screen, they'd keep the rights just despite.

As for Hugh Jackman, HE IS the "Christopher Reeves" of Wolverine. I doubt we'd be able to find an actor that's remotely as committed as he is at delivering to the fans their inner most desires. And that means that he is aware that wolverine is a "berserker" of sorts as he prooved it in X-2 and he WILL push the director in giving in to make what the Real Fans want. This movie could very well surpass IronMan. It's all gonna depend on how actually anal Fox are and how long of a reach do they have in their movies.

yeah jackman is a great wolvie, althopugh he has said trhat he doesnt see need to push the envelope on the violence of the character..thats fair enough i spose, i mean you can get away with a hell of a lot these days with a 12a cert
Shaman
Shaman - 11/24/2008, 10:11 AM
But there's a difference between violence and fierce agressiveness which is to berserk. In X1 he used it to unleash himself in the liberty statue. In X2 he used it when he killed the intruder in the kitchen. In X3 he used it in the forest tracking down Pheonix. Yet the violence itself wasn't all that gory. You can see what i'm gettin at. He will remain true to the character, although he is a newby, he's a purist at heart and we need that!

i want to see someone like darren aronofski direct xmen 4..i mean the potential is there with these characters to have a good mix of character driven drama with explosive action..singer did this to a degree but he only scratched the surface imo..lets have a near 3 hour epic, that can stand up to the dark knight to be the "citizen kane" of comic book movies. too ambitious?
Shaman
Shaman - 11/25/2008, 12:32 PM
Well it would be too ambitious for FOX but it wouldn't be to MARVEL! I don't recall what Aronofski did but one director i'd LOVE to see do more superhero movies is Stephen Norrington! I felt he did a kick ass job for the first BLADE. Not that DelToro isn't good but Norrington has a better "real life" aspect of the underground world where DelToro is more in the Fantasy realm.

he made requiem for a dream and the fountain..very strange downbeat movies but i know hed make a good xmen movie. he was in talks to direct batman begins but his script was too dark..now that must have been pitch black considering how nolans movies turned out

Good point, sure i'd give him a shot with x-men!!! Mabe even give him the Daredevil reboot!

I read that Jackman believes "there was no need for excessive violence in origins".... uh, hello? IT'S WOLVERINE... idiot.
Shaman
Shaman - 11/26/2008, 8:15 AM
LOL, i think he meant "blood&guts" kinda "graphic" violence. Because he wouldn't have liked offing the guy in the kitchen in X2 if that was what he originally meant.
