If Wolverine Flops, Hugh Jackman Walks

Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman told reporters that he will leave the X-Men series if X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn't do decent box office when it opens May, 1st 2009. Said Jackman, "If it's clear to us on May second or third that that's gone, then I'll walk away happily."

Even though Jackman has talked openly about what he'd like to do with the character if a sequel happens (he wants to explore the Japanese storylines), he told Moviehole.net...

"I’m not going to flog something – or flog a dead horse, or try and make movies that people don’t really want to go and see. I have no interest in that. Even no matter how much I love the character. So there are many prerequisites".

It doesn't sound like he's tired of the role, or WANTS to leave the franchise...

"There’s a few story lines that are running my head which I think would be really cool, but unless the script is right, then I just don’t see the point in doing it. I’m probably at the point in my career where I don’t need it. And the last thing I want to do is just to push it on people, if it doesn’t warrant a full feature movie."

Hugh Jackman is AWESOME. Plain and simple. He's got the right attitude towards his job as an actor, this is why people dig him, not just because he's uber-macho or hot or anything, but because he has a genuine approach to how things should be done. Rock on Hugh!

CBM, you don't post enough. Where's your input on these topics? I, for one, would like to know your stance or opinion on a few of the subjects. PLUS, I have somewhat of a bone to pick with you in your Fan-Fic Forum, the Batman Green Arrow thing that SoulEater is writing. Read it and please, if you don't mind, I would like an explanation.

The movie should be a hit. But i totally understand where Hugh is comming from. It is only logical for him to "not want" to stick around for a "Batman forever/Batman and Robin" ride with Wolverine. He saw what happened with those movies as did he see what happened with Superman Returns and Spiderman3. In fact if you had to ask them, i can bet my red money that Christian Bale as well as Robert Downey Jr. would say the same! Downey did mention that with the slightest selophane "S" being shown... it would make Avengers suck. He's right and i wouldn't blame him not to want to tag along for when the "thud" is heard world wide. Shit, the man JUST got back up to superstardom.

As psyched as i am to see this movie being done, i'm even more psyched to know that Hugh DOES want to make the next one "the Japan Wonder Years". But if let's say Goyer came by to his house with a "Blade3 crapfest style" script for it, he'd politely tell him to get off his property before he sets the dogs on him! Can't blame him one bit. Man would i ever pay to see that!!!

Am I the only person who doesn't think they need to make a sequel to Wolverine?
Shaman
Shaman - 11/28/2008, 1:43 PM
Eh YES. The Japan story is too cool to be untold. So why not. Let's face it, no one NEEDS a sequel but most of us WANT one. Only if this one does great that is. Or else why make any sequels at all. Would you be happy to live in a world where there was only ONE X-men movie, Batman, Superman, Ironman... even HULK and CAPTAIN AMERICA??? Think thoroughly before you answer this one (you know where i'm gettin'at).

Im in... Its too bad most movies are ruined by the Actor not getting enough money or think they will get stuck as one character...an only remember for that role...
Shaman
Shaman - 11/28/2008, 3:17 PM
Well thing is that these actors DO suffer from only being recognised as THAT role. Michael Keaton JUST got his carrer back up with WHITENOISE. Christopher Reeves never did. If i say WILLIAM SHATNER, what comes to mind? Sure as hell ain't SHOWTIME. See what i'm getting at? Not everybody is as lucky as Richard Dean Anderson or Patrick Stuart. So the FEAR itself of this happening to them is not so much the cause since it is well founded. You can go down in history for pulling off a great epic role but if the script doesn't look as good on the big screen as it sounded on the page because of a bad director, then you'll just go down the drain. Thank god Brandon Rooth had Singer, even though his script sucked, he damn well made it look good.

so guys, are we going to have a propaganda? lets say free advertising...

by the way, hugh once said that he would like to make a darker wolevrine movie sequel...which now would depend upon the sales of wolvie origins..

I am seeing this movie will be a hit and Hugh doesn't have to worry. But I think that this is putting great pressure on the film, damn. We can't have X-men 4 without Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. It would be like replacing Prof X. That just can't happen.

As an avid X-men fan, I will do my best to make sure EVERYONE goes and sees this movie. We can't let this franchise die. I don't want X-men in the ranks as Daredevil, Elecktra, and the 1st Hulk and Punisher. NO, no, No.

And, Parascythe..."are we going to have a propaganda?" doesn't make sense.

People, don't let fear push you into seeing something that doesn't work.

I'm wanting a good Wolverine movie as much as the next person, however, I wouldn't take this as a threat. Rather as a good thing. A possible blessing in disguise because if FOX screw this up badly enough that no one goes to see it from bad word-to-mouth, like Ang Lee's "Hulk". Then the possibility of someone (Marvel Studios) rebooting it into a proper movie would be greater.

Hugh Jackman said that he will do it if he was presented with a good script that warrants a full feature movie.
I think he's basically saying here that he's not going to whore himself out and completely abuse a character he likes just to keep a franchise out there. If you're a true comic book movie fan, you wouldn't hound everyone to go see a movie in fear of losing a mishandled X-Men series.

Okay people, costumes have a purpose and logic. It has nothing to do with fashion or history. Batman's custome is meant to strike fear and conceal his identity. Superman's costume stands as a symbol for his ideals. When you see him, you know what his purpose in life is because you know that his "S" stands for more than just "super". Spiderman's costume is primerely for identity purposes but also to be recognised because he doesn't care much for stealth. He wants to be on that front page!

On the other hand, you have to ask yourself: what does wolverine stand for? What does he do? What are his powers and what does he use them for? Does he even need a costume and if so, what would be the concept behind it? Let's examine the character shall we? First and fore most, Wolverine is NOT a superhero. He's alot more like a covert operative. He has a greater purpose than helping damsels in distress, he has top secret missions to accomplish. He doesn't need a symbolic costume nor does he need to hide his identity in any showboat manner that would attract fame. What are his powers? Does he fly? Is he invulnerable? Does he need to be in an open space to use his powers? The answer is no. He regenerates, has highten senses and adamantium bones and claws. He would serve no purpose to be out in the open so there would be no need for theatrical costumes. To be effective, he needs stealth and camouflage... is bright yellow spandex "camo" to you? And if we even examine his personnality at all, his very being laughs at the sight of costumes. He finds them ridiculous. And would he really choose "brown" in this day and age?

I like comicbooks as much as any of you but when we talk about the boxoffice, if you are to ware a costume, there better be a damn good reason for it or else people in general won't connect with it and the movie will not sell. It will just look stupid.
IonParallax
IonParallax - 12/1/2008, 12:18 PM
He could go for the Stealth look in the new X-Force. Pretty sweet, but I agree Shaman, there isn't any reason for Wolverine to wear a "costume" ESPECIALLY the bright yellow and blue original getup. With whiskers and tiny little ears. Looked like a total douche. In the comics, fine, but on the Big Screen, absolutely not, just doesn't work.
IonParallax
IonParallax - 12/1/2008, 12:19 PM
NO, Wolverine should NOT be included in the Avengers movie. Not even a cameo, that's retarded.

And we've been over the subject so many times it's not funny anymore. Shit, I thought i had nothing better to do. X-nay on the Avenger's-ay mov-ay! It ain't gonna happen! Fox ain't Marvel! Are we done here...

You're right ION, man he looked like a total DOUCHE with the wiskers. As if, of all characters, logan would agree to wiskers... Shit even Kitty pride would find that degrading.

Wolverweinie, you can all dream of it but that's the only place you'll ever get to see them together. In your DREAMS!

And Marvel can make the best possible script ever, bottom line is Fox has a long reach and will morph it to they're liking. They practically changed aspects of the Wolverine movie despite it's own director for cryin' out loud!!!

I did not watch the movie yet, but I imagine it is not a great story. Moviegoers need good stories, like The Dark Knight. Or like one that I ve found from an author named Akartorik. The story is just setting characters, now, but it seems a good story.
