X-MEN: Has LOKI And DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Writer Michael Waldron Been Tapped To Pen MCU Reboot?

We're not really sure what to make of this, but Thor: Love and Thunder's Jennifer Kaytin Robinson appears to have outed fellow scribe Michael Waldron as the writer for an upcoming X-Men project.

X-Men fans have been anxiously awaiting news on Marvel Studios' plans for the iconic mutant superheroes ever since Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox back in 2019. Despite a few rumors here and there, there's been no official word on an MCU reboot, but we may finally have an update.

Thor: Love and Thunder writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson shared an Instagram post to mark her birthday, on which Michael Waldron (Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) commented, "good luck with your life." Robinson's response? "Good luck with writing X-Men."

This seems like an odd, not to mention reckless, thing to blurt out on social media, so there's always a chance Robinson is joking. Even if she isn't, she could be referring to the upcoming X-Men '97 animated series revival for Disney+ and not the elusive live-action movie/series that's (presumably) in the early stages of development.

Chances are either Robinson or Waldron will address this once they realize how quickly the story has circulated, but if the comment is simply deleted, it's probably safe to assume there's some truth to it!

We'll update once we learn more, but for now, let us know what you think in the comments.

UPDATE: It looks like Robinson was most likely referencing an April Fool's joke.

Has to be…no other reason he wouldn’t have been brought back on for Loki S2 imo.

Seems like some in-joke maybe?

But hey somebody's gotta write X-Men. Cannot wait for the mutants to hit the big screen in all their glory.

I've said it all along, OG 5 vs the sentinels. All-new all-different in the sequel with a Hulk vs Wolverine movie inbetween.

@LongMayHeReign - yes. I love Winter Soldier, the first Guardians movie, black Panther, Civil War, iron man 1, the incredible hulk, and No way home.

Could be a few more im not thinking about.

The only ones I dislike are age of ultron, dark world, ragnarok, infinity war and endgame

I actually liked the writing in Loki when people sat down and had conversations, some of the plotting was meh, but dialogue was great. This wouldn't be a bad choice, joke or not

Well, that was quick and dumb…. Based on an April Fool’s Dat joke. Ugh.

Unrelated: Anyway, the animated adaptation of Eisner Award-winning graphic novel Nimona is back on at Netflix after Disney killed it in the Fox merger:

If it does turn out that this was more than a joke, thinking about it, balancing such a large number of characters in Multiverse of Madness (if the assumption that he was successful turns out to be true) would make Waldron the perfect man for the job.

@WeaponXCII - There's no reason they have to drop a slew of Xmen all at once... that, if anything, would seem rushed and out of place for the MCU.
WeaponXCII
WeaponXCII - 4/11/2022, 10:46 PM
@JonC - And yet, for some reason, Feige and everyone at Marvel believed that Eternals would have worked. I thought that Feige took all the lessons that he learned from pre-MCU movies (namely, not overcrowding them), but that's seeded some doubts, unfortunately....

I think the films should have the 80s/90s comic/animated series teams while a prequel series on Disney plus should be about original five members and their adventures.

I know FOX took a lot of heat the entire time they were producing X-Men films due to them not being very close to the source material in many areas. My question is, if we don't get an almost totally comic-accurate version of the X-Men on screen, will X-Men fans criticize Disney the same way they did FOX? I don't expect the MCU stans to... they praise everything Disney/Marvel puts out, but fans of the X-Men comics have been getting the short end of the stick for decades. It'll be interesting to see how this shakes out.

I hope they don't start off as a team. I would like to see them develop as individal characters first and explore how they become a team.

I'm a bit worried about how they are gonna go with this. I'm hoping the characters resemble something similar to the animated version costume wise
