Mark Millar Talks X-FORCE, BATMAN/SUPERMAN Movie And JUSTICE LEAGUE

While discussing Fox's X-Force adaptation and getting Jeff Wadlow (Kick Ass 2) to write and possibly direct, Mark Millar also shares his thoughts on Warner Bros.' planned Superman/Batman team-up

While answering questions asked by various Twitter users (via Total Film), comic book writer and 20th Century Fox creative consultant Mark Millar talks about Warner Bros.' planned Batman/Superman team-up film. He thinks it's a brilliant move that isn't being rushed at all, and says that it should be just as successful as a Justice League movie would (if not more so) if that would've been the next DC adaptation. Millar also talks about the planned X-Force movie and getting Kick Ass 2 writer-director Jeff Wadlow on board. For updates on Nemesis, The Secret Service and more, click the source link below.

On Warner Bros.' Batman/Superman Movie, Whether It's Being Rushed And Other DC Movies:

"No, not at all; I actually think it’s a brilliant idea. Justice League would have been a really weird move for them. Could you imagine doing The Avengers without doing Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and everything beforehand?

"With the Justice League, you’re talking about seven different dimensions that these characters are coming from. The Martian Manhunter comes from Mars, with Wonder Woman you have to explain the Paradise Islands populated by Amazons, the Green Lantern you’ll have to reintroduce because nobody saw the first film and then there’s the Flash, and Aquaman and the undersea kingdom of Atlantis – how on earth do you possibly explain that? That’s seven movies that you’ve somehow got to explain in the first act of a JLA film, so I think they’re really wise in what they’re doing, by just keeping with the two that everybody knows.

"I actually don’t think that a Justice League movie would have done any more business than Superman Vs Batman. At the moment, nobody really cares about those other characters anyway yet."

On X-Force And Hiring Jeff Wadlow To Write And Potentially Direct:
"Jeff made a really entertaining film with Kick-Ass 2, I was really happy. And he had a difficult film to follow because expectations were high. He had a really tough gig – it’s not like coming in and doing Green Lantern 2 or something but he did a really good job on it and I said to the guys on X-Force: ‘get him while he’s relatively cheap.’ Because after this summer, everybody’s going to want him. Again, I can’t really say without giving it away so I’ll leave that one for Jeff because that’s probably an announcement we’ll make next year because they’ve got a cool take on it. That was my first question to Jeff when I suggested X-Force to him. I said: ‘What would you bring to the table because you’re going to be doing something that already has an established fan base', so what’s the point in spending half a billion on it if there’s no good rationale for the project?’"

Nobody cares about the other JL members?
Horseshit...if your talentless & uncreative then yes,you can't pull of a Justice League film.

No one knew who Darth Vader,Han Solo,Luke Skywalker, etc. were but that didn't stop that original film from becoming legendary.

Millar is just kissing ass..should be his next book KISS-ASS.

One thing no one wants to admit is this.

The Superman/Batman movie IS rushed.

Something tells me, if Goyer and Synder had their own way, they won't do it.

Hypocrite Marvel Studio fanboys.

Adding Batman to a Superman film is rushed but adding Black Widow, Nick Fury, and SHIELD to Iron Man 2 isn't.

We already know Lex will be a better villain than Hammer and Whiphack.

This was fun to read. I don't necessarily agree with everything he said, but the part when he said 'nobody saw Green Lantern' made me laugh.

He did bring up some good points thought. When you read it like he broke it down, about how to explain all this different origins, it does look a bit daunting. But hey, if Marvel can explain the origins of The Avengers, DC can do the same with the JL.

Stil, I think Supes/Bats is a bit early. Should have been MoS sequel first.

He just said you couldn't imagine doing The Avengers without the other movies. Yet you can do a Batman/Superman that will lead to the Justice League when you just re-introduced Superman. And let's be real, introduced in not quite the greatest of ways. The entire town of Smallville and the government should easily know who Superman is Lois tracked him down in a day. The government wouldn't be able to do that come on man!

I'm over the xmen films. I never like them. It's not too late to add amazing costumes to the characters and have great graphics. But I don't see that happening.
I can't wait for batman/superman!!!

Also a lot of people would be excited for a justice league movie. I think dc should have an aqua man movie before other studios do their take on under water films. With avatar coming out in a few years and Namor most likely happening soon it will fill like Dc is copying if they donut after.

Let's get real now Black Widow isn't a major character she's only got a profile now because of The Avengers. As for Nick Fury & S.H.I.E.L.D they were at least teased throughout and at the end of Iron Man. They did just see Iron Man's box office receipts and say hey let's do an Avengers movie throw in Shield. They at least seemed to have a plan. I'm still excited about Batman/Superman it's just if feels too reactionary to what Marvel is doing rather than an actual plan.

thewonderer - 8/16/2013, 7:43 AM
If anything Avengers 2 is being more rushed than anything.

You have Joss adamant on including 2 new characters, giving more character to the shitty MCU Hawkeye, still wanting to give attention to Black Widow, reintroducing the Hulk and giving us a lot of him because Marvel has no faith in another solo film, introducing Ultron, and explaining how all the Avengers come back (making up for endings too, like iron man 3)

Let's no forget Shield and the more Maria hill promised. What a joke

SameOldThing - The Star Wars characters were completely original creations and you weren't required to tell a bunch of backstory to introduce them. There is a HUGE difference. You can't just say "and this is Wonder Woman" and be done with it. And you can't fit origin and backstory for 4 new characters that are established as solo heroes in one movie. And you're an idiot if you don't understand the difference.

Batman/Superman isn't rushed. It was supposed to happen years ago and didn't, and we've already seen Superman as Batman in solo movies enough. Start building the relationship now. Then you can work new characters in. This guy knows what he's talking about more than you asshats who think you're Hollywood experts do. You guys don't know shit.

WB/DC are too chickenshit to go outside of Superman and (to a much greater extent) Batman. They figure by adding Batman aka DC's top cash cow character to a Superman sequel, that it'll be a BO success, instead of doing a solo MOS sequel to right the wrongs made in the first. The folks at WB/DC can't take a piss without Batman strolling in the bathroom to hold their dicks for them.

I like Millar.... but that quote about the world not caring about the other JL members... that was a bad quote.

By that logic, studios shouldnt make any more original movies, since "the world doesnt care about new characters".

And Marvel shouldnt use Quicksilver and Wanda because the world doesnt care about them, or Fox shouldnt use Bishop and Blink because the world doesnt care.

bad point, Mark.

Face it, WB/DC is milking the Batman cow dry. Even outside of movies, Batman has the most media outings than any other character in DC. He has like 13-14 ongoing titles in the New 52, half if not most of DC Animation is Batman related, several shows and even in video games.....

Batman is overused and the deniers will make any excuse to sugarcoat the facts.
PaulRom
PaulRom - 8/16/2013, 7:51 AM
@MartianAbominationClone: No problem. I doubt it'll have "vs." in the title anyways (despite Goyer suggesting otherwise).

And one thing I'd like to point out: It doesn't seem like Marvel putting out two films a year isn't rushing anything, but plotting another movie for release in two years without any confirmed plans for more is? If they were to sit 2015 out and release a DC film in 2016, I can hear fans bashing WB for not catching up with Marvel. But since they are releasing a big film in 2015, they're just rushing. Make up your minds.
