X-MEN '97, MARVEL ZOMBIES, And More MCU Animated Titles Expected To Heavily Feature The Scarlet Witch

The Scarlet Witch only showed up in two episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series, with her story continuing in Iron Man. In that show, Wanda Maximoff followed her comic book counterpart by joining The Avengers (well, Force Works), but will we see the hero - and occasional villain - in Marvel Studios and Disney+'s upcoming X-Men '97 revival?

In a piece delving into the Scarlet Witch's MCU future, The Cosmic Circus (via Toonado.com) reveals the popular character - played by Elizabeth Olsen in live-action - is expected to play a sizeable role in upcoming Marvel Studios animated projects.

X-Men '97 is indeed among them, primarily because "Marvel knows the value the Scarlet Witch character has to the Marvel Studios’ IP and plans to explore multiple takes on the character through the lens of the Multiverse Saga."

She and Quicksilver appeared in the "Repo Man" and "Family Ties" episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series, discovering they were Magneto's children. Neither of them wanted anything to do with their father, but now he's leading the X-Men, we have a feeling a reunion could be in the cards.

It's said that we'll also see the Scarlet Witch in What If...? season 2 and the Marvel Zombies spin-off series, meaning there's a bright future for this character on screen before she eventually returns in live-action.

Head Writer Beau DeMayo previously teased plans for Wanda in X-Men '97, suggesting she and Quicksilver will finally get their due after being most overlooked last time around.

X-Men: The Animated Series first hit our screens in 1992 and ran for a total of 76 episodes. The show was a hit and delivered a near-perfect take on the mutant team that still resonates with comic book fans.

X-Men '97 is expected to premiere on Disney+ next year; as for What If...? and Marvel Zombies, there's a chance we could see the former return with season 2 later this year. That's not confirmed and we currently have no news on the TV-MA spin-off.

They should not promote her to kids. She has killed several heroes and raped several people.

"X-Men: The Animated Series, with her story continuing in Iron Man."

Sorry to be the "achtually" guy, but not really. As much as some people like to treat the 90's Marvel cartoons as a one big shared universe, they were mostly their own continuities, with maybe some connected "pocket universes" (Iron Man/Fantastic Four/The Incredible Hulk all had crossovers with each other were they directly mentioned the events of the other shows and while the X-Men never acknowledge the two-part crossover with Spider-Man on their own show, they were clearly meant to be the same versions of those characters). The Scarlet Witch from the X-Men is clearly different character from the one who was in Iron Man (different design, voice actor and personality), not to mention the one from Avengers: United They Stand clearly being different from both.

Kinda digging just how much Wanda we've got. From her being one of the bigger characters in Infinity War, to getting one of the coolest moments in Endgame to kickstarting the new saga with her own show to being the main villain of MoM. Gimme more Wanda. She feels like the biggest character now after Spidey and Loki in the MCU.

I'm just getting tired of her. Marvels shoving her down our throats like DC did with Harley quinn

@Spudnasty85 - seems to be a reason. She's immensely popular. I realized this back when MOM came out and people were mad that she went villainous and everyone assumed she wasn't actually dead. People really like her

Makes sense, to a lot of younger kids she’s going to be one of the more recognizable characters considering aside from the Fox movies (which I don’t think kids were into) X-Men has been out of mind for younger demographics for around a decade at least. It’ll get people my age who maybe missed the 90’s show to have a touchstone and introduce her bring a mutant.

I still think she’s going to be linked to the X-Men at some point in the MCU even if it’s in a passing reference to the infinity stone activating her and Pietro’s X-gene. I could see them linking that with people who were dusted during the blip and saying that certain people that came back returned with the X-gene
