X-MEN '97: New Stills From "Fire Made Flesh" Pit The Team Against A Sinister Villain From The Past

In yesterday's episode of X-Men '97, titled "Fire Made Flesh," the mutants found themselves going up against the evil Mister Sinister.

Now, Marvel Animation and Disney+ have shared a handful of stills (via Toonado.com) from this third chapter featuring a new look at the team in action and the villainous Sinister standing tall. He's expected to be the big bad in Marvel Studios' eventual live-action reboot of the X-Men franchise, so we're not surprised to see him take centre stage here.

Just like in the comic books, X-Men '97's Mister Sinister has a fascination with the Summers bloodline and planned to turn young Nathan Summers into the ultimate weapon; instead, he's infected with a Techno-Organic Virus which will see him return from the future as Cable.

X-Men: The Animated Series star Chris Britton reprised his role as Mister Sinister in today's episode of X-Men '97 and, in a recent interview with Men's Health, executive producer Brad Winderbaum talked about the process of bringing back the original show's cast members.

"Like the music, that was a key component: to have as many people come back as possible," he explains. "And when you hear George [Buza] or Cal [Dodd] or Adrian [Hough] or Lenore [Zann] or Alyson [Court]...there are so many iconic voices you remember as a kid, and when you hear it for the first time, you don't even need the animation, you already see it in your mind."

"They are those characters. And then there's some people who, you're right, we switched around based on voices changing over time. Someone like Catherine Disher, who was the original Jean Grey, now plays Val Cooper - such an awesome character," Winderbaum adds. "And now, because of Catherine's performance, she gets more real estate on screen as the series goes on."

In our review of the show's first three episodes last week, we concluded by saying, "A triumphant return for X-Men: The Animated Series, X-Men '97 is an eXtraordinary epic which, while a little overreliant on nostalgia, should satisfy fans of the original show and serve as an eXcellent entry poin

X-Men '97 revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.

The first two episodes of X-Men '97 are now streaming on Disney+ with new instalments following weekly.

While i'm still getting used to the changed voice actors, i am loving having an episode of X-Men to watch week-to-week.

@TheManWithoutFear - Apparently the original voice actor for Gambit is in the show, but he's voicing Cable for some strange reason...

If Sinister is ever done in live action, it would be quite the feet if they pulled off that name without it sounding ridiculous. Was always fine in comics and cartoons, but I just can’t picture an actor saying “Mr Sinister” and it not sounding corney as hell.

@mountainman - They probably would just call him Sinister in film or have someone say a joke and call him "oh so you're Mr. Sinister".

@Arthorious - Or take the lazy route and just call him Essex.

This story could have probably been a two parter, but it didn't feel rushed considering how long the comic arc is. This show is the bees knees! More content like this, and less content like The Marvels and everything else following Endgame

@bobevanz - First five minutes up until intro of Goblin Queen felt rushed. Almost as if they should have had a different episode here with the Beast reveal of who the clone was and let that simmer for the characters a bit.

Magneto better lose eventually never like that look for him in comics doesn’t look imposing in that costume
