X-Men:Apocalypse Review

If Quicksilver was the cherry then Scott “Cyclops” Summers is the creamy underneath, sorry I am a huge Cyke fan and he finally feels closer to his comic doppelganger than the travesties that came before. Most characters are given a good stroke of their truer selves, well besides Angel who once again becomes throw away number one.

Well finally one of my top 5 anticipated movies for 2016 landed this week.

There seems to a lot of negativity surrounding this film, but trust me it’s for all the wrong reasons. More on that later..
As a comic book movie it serves the audience well, but I will also admit it does have its short comings.

Visually the movie is spectacular, and Singer wasn’t kidding that this was the biggest outing by the merry mutants.  The set pieces really do the movie justice. The cherry on top would have to have been Quicksilvers scene. Without spoiling it I will tell you it takes everything you loved about the DOFP scene and amplifies it. I mean the movie could have ended there and I would have been one happy puppy.

The story was clearly designed for the general audience but still tries to keep to more learned fan please as well and as such sometimes feels disjointed. But that is only in minor capacity.

For all the concerns of Apocalypse, the end result was not too shabby. He does have a commanding presence but he never feel imposing. His looks seemed more refined and there is no purple (thank god). All his powers seemed spot on and one (cant mention) is one I haven’t seen before. I am not sure if they just added it for visual effect or it is an actual power that I just have not encountered before.

This movie does feel more X-Men than anything before.

So what are the right reasons for slamming this flick?

This will be tricky without spoilers…but here goes…

Fox has missed a beat here, they had gold with Apocalypse. Any fan will know that Age of Apocalypse was one of the greatest stories ever told. With its multi book arc it was the perfect way for Fox to usher in their shared universe. Also it would have been refreshingly different from anything currently available or even coming soon.

Without giving too much away I will say that the way the movie ends could have En Saba Nur as either a returning villain or a throw away one. I hope it is not the later as that would be a slap in face to all fans.

Bottom line this movie should not be missed, it’s up there with Civil War, better than BvS and worthy partner to Deadpool.
Yes the is stuff you have “seen” before like Magneto’s and Xavier’s relationship but that’s a good thing. After all nobody says hey we need less Iron Man scenes.

This is a solid entry in the series and deserves to break the billion dollar mark. The fans will most likely find flaws, but the movie works and is truly entertaining.

4/5

i slam this movie for rehashed plot, poor poor visuals, child actors who seem like they are in a highschool play. the tone shifted from kookiness to DARK and DEPRESSING back to highschool hijinks

[frick] this movie

i know little of xmen but i have no reason to hate them. in my unbiased opinion

[frick] this movie i walked out right before they killed apocalypse (i assume) i just didn't care. ill figure out how it ended when it is on hbo for free, i had other things to do that day that didn't involve poorly told stories.
