Kevin Bacon Explains How Emotion Sets X-Men: First Class Apart From Other Comic Book Movies

While chatting it up with MTV along side costar January Jones, Kevin Bacon explains why the emotion level in X-Men: First Class sets it apart from other comic book movie adaptions...

“They are falling in love, and they are having sex, and they’re angry with each other and they’re getting drunk and they’re acting childish and grown up and learning things,"
he said. "If you take all of the effects out of the movie, you still have the basis for an entertaining and fascinating story.”

“This is the first that I’ve even thought about Bond,”
responded the actor. “But it’s come up quite a bit, actually. You know, I love those movies and I grew up with those movies. They were very, very influential on me as a kid... If something feels kind of Bond-y, it was subconscious.”

X-Men: First Class hits theaters June 3rd.

All the X-men films pretty much have sucked so far, I'm sure this one won't be any exception. Don't settle for mediocrity.

@OptimusBurgundyMaximus Empire gave it 3 stars which, if you look at their rating system, means GOOD.

5 stars = CLASSIC
4 stars = EXCELLENT
3 stars = GOOD
2 stars = FAIR
1 star = TRAGIC

And they end their verdict with: "there’s thankfully enough to make you feel optimistic about the series’ future once more."

Hardly mediocre

Someone who honestly believes a movie will fail based on a critic's review is mediocre.

They also said

"Plot holes, meanwhile, are disappointingly numerous;

and we could have lived without the cheesy “Let’s all have codenames!” episode "

make you feel optimistic about the series’ future once more."

Given that there is 1 ? Depending on the success of this

They also gave x3 3 stars and that was 1 of the worst cbm's ever

Still in what sense does gl not have shit on x men? :s

@Witty

i totally agree with you. Thor had an emotional and real story it, so true, and The Dark Knight had emotion to it. and Cap and Lantern with have that to.

97% on RottenTomatoes. I think everyone who put down the movie in the past will be eating crow come Friday. :-Z

so what if it has a 97 % right now Thor had a 94% before it came out and it dropped to 78%. When it comes out the rating is going to drop and especially since the people that know the xmen universe are going to make the rating lower because first class isn't even close to the source material.

Well, I've no idea at this point. If this film is a raging success, don't expect Marvel to get the rights back. To me, I'd love to see that happen, because we could possibly see Hugh Jackman and Robert Downey Jr. share the screen, unless getting the rights back means starting all over again.

Check out my fancast for X-Men: Children of the Atom to see how it should be done with the ORIGINAL first class.

About Thor, I didn't think it was crazy amazing, but it was entertaining. Face it, Natalie Portman made a strong transition to a CBM than Scarlet Johannson, because Portman reclaimed her youthful spunk, while Johannson is a tightwad (dating Sean Penn = BAD IDEA!). Oh, and Chris Hemsworth delivered the goods.

I know marvel won't be getting the rights back anytime soon, but wish they could but can't. Thor was entertaining i do agree with you on that. Chris Hemsworth did deliver the goods. First class will be good with action thats all, but story wise it will just be about the action. I do wish that Fox and Bryan Singer would at least the material. I'm not asking frame for frame from the comics but to at least respect it and stay close to the material, and i don't mind changes but they change everything so drastically, which i don't like. Thor was a what a marvel should be, but thats just me

I get people getting upset over First Class not being anywhere near the source material, but Vaughn has already said numerous times that this movie isn't an adaptation of those comics, he just liked the name and used it, which I think is cool as it suits the concept of going back to the beggining. Might be cool to get into the real first class team in future movies but for now I think its a perfect name for the new (possible) trilogy. It's not supposed to be a movie version of the first class comics, but maybe they'll get to that.
