Ray Wise Joins X-Men: First Class

Ray Wise Joins X-Men: First Class

The Twin Peaks legend(sorry I'm a fan:) is set to join Matthew Vaughn's mutant prequel very late in the game indeed..

Even though X-Men: First Class has been shooting for a few months now, cast members are still being added. Ray Wise, best known for his iconic turn as Leland Palmer in Twin Peaks and The Devil in Reaper among many other roles, announced at a Twin Peaks homage event last night that he will be joining the cast, and revealed his role too..

"I'm playing the Secretary of State of the United States. I'll be going over there in the next couple of weeks,"

"I love Matthew. And Bryan Singer's producing it and [it's got] a great cast – James McAvoy, January Jones, Oliver Platt."

While speaking to IGN, Wise also revealed that he would likely be involved in some special effects sequences in the movie..

"Well, I think I touch on them, yeah, a bit."

A fine addition to an already impressive cast I'm sure you will agree. Cue Fox hate!

This guy was amazing in Reaper (why was that show ever cancelled!?!) and I'm sure he'll be great in what is sure to be another crappy Fox movie. :P Here's hoping he has a decent amount of screentime regardless.

Why Reaper was canceled.Sometime during the 2008-2009 series, the CW president of Entertainment, Dawn Ostroff, decided the network was only going to focus on a certain demographic.White females, 18-29.

That means they got rid of all of the shows that were targeted at males. That included Smackdown and Reaper. This also meant they would no longer produce "Urban series"(their phrase, not mine)that appealed to minorities. That included Everybody Hates Chris and other shows.

Two of the CW's highest rated series are Smallville and Supernatural.Ostroff has shown her contempt for the series in the past by cutting their budgets and using it to add more episodes to Gossip Girls and 90210.

The network has attempted to build a bigger female audience for Smallville by focusing more on romance, but they are not able to do that with Supernatural, as the series only has two stars and they are both male. She then shipped both series to Friday, but they have found success there.

Same goes for Nikita. They had intended to make a show with a strong female lead that would attract females. But the majority of Nikita's audience is male.So they decide they need to tweak the series because they refuse to have a show that males can watch. They intend to slow down the action, lighten the dark mood of the series and give Nikita a love interest.

Anyway, that's the long answer to why Reaper was canceled.

If going for historical accuracy, he'd be play this guy: http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/nge/Article.jsp?id=h-1024

To which, I can see some resemblance, if they thin Wise's hair a little.

Amazing actor, and I agree with @Josh, he was great on Reaper(In my opinion, he was the best part of the show). But he is not gonna save the movie :P

@ rormachine

isn't that the opinion of everyone if its not the way you like.

fox had a chance of saving the x-men franchise by rebooting it.

but they know best don't they because the last two x-men related movies where awesome weren't they.

No it isn't actually Deadpool. Some people..lets call the, open minded folk,,can appreciate quality in a film even if it wasn't specifically what they were hoping for or expecting. Anyone who writes off a film without even having seen a trailer is incredibly stubborn and obtuse imo. yes, the last two X movies were sub par, but that doesn#'t mean this one will be. Look at Singers first films. Then agin you probably didn't like them either did you?

@ rormachine

the first two films had their moments i.e magneto as young boy in poland at the start & some of the other scenes are alright.

the nightcrawler in the white house scene was amazing the hint at the phoenix storyline & the magneto prison break where all great.

but they dropped the ball by not featuring the villains i wanted to see, magneto & the brotherhood was fine but stryker, come on mate.

mr.sinster & the marauders, the sentinels or apocalyspe & his four horsemen would of been cool.

i'm not the only one who thinks like this,on paper this movie sounds shit.

i'll be totally honest i am not totally excited about this but the cast and director are fricking amazing, so i will watch this unless the trailer is really really bad, but even then i'll wait till i watch it, i remember reading some where saying that vaughn wanted to go down the star trek reboot path so hopefully we get some sort of time shit thingy lol but i still hate fox f'ing up daredevil though, they should have kept the directors cut

@deadpool72, you are every stubborn, just because the villains you wanted weren't featured in a movie does not mean it's crap. If you think you can do a better job, then pick up a camera and direct something but till then stop being a troll in every single article that has to do with Xmen First Class or Smallville.

I saw season 1 and 2 of Twin Peaks in Fopp, for £20. I think Fopp is only in the UK though. I loved the series but I think it went a little down hill in Season 2. Season 1 was amazing though.

Yeah he totally looks like he would be part of the X-Men movie universe. He's got that, "I'm better than you and let me tell you how." look to him. Loved him in Peaks.

I didn't know Oliver Platt was in this? I love him!

This movie is the equivalent of having a "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The First Training of the Turtles" with only no turtles and only a Splinter and Shredder back story!!!! This film will suck and all you people that think it'll be good should just join the tea party because you have your heads up your ass! I don't need to see a trailer to know that a movie called x men first class without the actual first class will suck!

@DEadPool72, Kiss your ass? Sorry I don't kiss Hairy man ass, yeah you are entitled to your opinion but if you have to repeat it in every article then it shows that you are either trying to convince yourself that you believe it or you are a troll seeking attention. Which is it buddy?

PS. Fox Studio is not a one man operation, so you saying F**K Fox is childish. If you don't like their movies don't go watch them, simple as that. Btw, I hope you realize that fox is involved in most of the movies that come out every year. :D

Awesome to hear this! Can't deny that the cast is looking very impressive, especially with Matt's hand at ensembles. Really liked him on Reaper (pulled because it didn't fit with the CW's demographic (sarcasm)) and am looking forward to his performance. :)
