X-Men: First Class... Faithful to Comics?

Did you know that X-Men: First Class may be the most faithful movie about X-Men so far? Why? Read on!

Well, the X-Men's franchise isn't the most faithful to original source of the world.

X-Men (2000) has Iceman as a young boy, said that the First Class is composed by Cyclops, Jean, Storm and Beast. These are the most notable.

X2 (2003) has still Iceman and Pyro as young boys, Stryker is a soldier and the man behind Wolverine's origins. These are the most notable.

X-Men: Last Stand (2006)...well...this is all wrong! XD

Wolverine (2009) has mutants appeared in the Wolverine's past...And they're wrong (Why Gambit?). And most of notable: Deadpool...Oh man...

But now X-Men: First Class seems more faithful. Why? Because it seems will be based on "X-Men: Deadly Genesis" by Ed Brubaker.

This story arc shows the real origins about X-Men and the real...First Class! In the comic we see a young Xavier and a young Moira. Xavier has a secret and formed a First Class with mutants like Darwin, Sway, Petra and Vulcan.

The story is set in the past, when Cyclops and Jean are babies. And yes: Emma Frost is a young lady, part of Hellfire Club in this comic. In this story we see also Banshee.

I don't know how of this comic will be put in the movie but it seems more believable and faithful. In the comics we see a third brother of Cyclops from past; I think Singer and Vaughn changed this and substitute the character with Havok.

So, it seems logical and faithful. And surely in the second one we'll see the Second Class (like in the comics!): Cyclops and Jean...

Try telling Leee that. Also where did you see it's being based off Deadly Genisis. I don't see any of the names from the comic on imdb.

cyclops was involved in x-men deadly genesis, his mind got wiped and vulcan was involved. so no its not a faithful adaption neither is any of nolans batman films, instead you should say its taking inspiration from deadly genesis, which certainly makes sense

deadly genesis was about the rescue of the original team, meaning the original five by vulcans team which went wrong. "Vulcan and his team rescued Scott from Krakoa (it was previously thought that Krakoa itself released Scott to bring it more victims), and Vulcan was able to hurt the living island, which greatly enraged the creature. Vulcan revealed to Cyclops that they were in fact brothers, and sent Cyclops away on their jet to safety. As the jet took off, Cyclops watched in horror as the living island struck down and seemingly killed Vulcan and his team."(taken from wikipedia) cyclops was involved. but i do get your point and unlike a lot of people on this website i will watch first class when it comes out

wolverine was pretty faithful except for deadpool and the other mutants. and his past is a mess so he could run into some of them

like IBZ said, Vulcan's team was not the original x-team. They were sent to save the original five from Krakoa and only managed to save Cyke.

Thats when Xavier brought in the "New Xmen" team which consisted of Wolvie, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Banshee, and Thunderbird, and THEY went and saved the rest.

@ StrangerX

Stop going to IMDB, they don't know crap about movies still in production. Its been reported that Darwin will be in the new movie, which is what i think inspired this connection.

Good article, but it's all speculative at this point on whether First Class will be based on Deadly Genesis. I definitely think they will pull elements from that storyline to fit into the movie continutity though, which would be great.

Still really excited for this movie with all the tidbits I'm getting.

Oh, and I can't believe someone said X3 was better than X1 or X2. Wow, you just invalidated every opinion you ever have. lol

These movies don't need to be completely faithful to the comics. Like new writers coming in with new story arcs, these movies are different takes and or arcs for the characters we all love. I don't know why everyone cares so much that they follow so closely to the source material. I'd rather get new stories anyway so I don't neccessarily know what is going to happen. As long as the movie is done well and enjoyable why can't we just accept it as it is? It's one thing to adapt a book into a movie than it is to adapt a comic book character who has 1,000 different versions or story arcs. Let's just enjoy the ride!

People really need to quit using wikipedia and IMDB as legitimate sources.

In any event they should have called it Deadly Genesis then instead of First Class. Two different stories.

ok then, yeah, still not the 1st class, how many comics are there out there that say x-men 1st class and have, cyke, jean, best, iceman, and angel in them? im going to say all of them have that, sooooo [frick] that shit. just change the name of the movie and real fans would maybe accept this more.

This story arc shows the real origins about X-Men and the real...First Class!

Huh? Is the original five not the real first class. I see where you are going with drawing up the comparasion.

I have a crazy thought! I know most people believe that it will not be the sentinels, but I would not be shocked if it was. Now the plot does say that the mutant problem has not become kown to the world but it becomes known during the cours of the film. So maybe it is the sentinels. The government, with funding from the helfire club, create a sentinal. We did see a sentinal in x3, when the x-kids were in the danger room. They made it into x3, where did xavier get the concept of a giant robot from? I know i am bending a lot of info but I would not be shocked if it is the sentinals. Hellfire club helped fund the sentinal program in the comics. just a crazy thought i had when i was puffing and watching the classic x-men cartoon on dvd.

"What if its a completely new story that isnt faithful to the characters? Can we complain then?Because thats what the entire X-Men franchise is."

^ Clearly whoever wrote this has no clue what they're talking about.

X-Men 2 was based off and adapted from the X-Men graphic novel "God Loves, Man Kills"

X-Men 3, no matter how underwhelming it was, was of course adapted from the Dark Phoenix saga and the Cure storyline.

X-Men 1 was really the only one you could possibly make a case of not being adapted from a direct comic book storyline, but even still they used the Mutant Registration Act from teh comics/tv show as the centerpiece of the movie.

To say that the first three movies were completely made up stories is a ridiculous and inaccurate statement.

well they obviously just made havok take vulcan's place since they are both siblings to cyclops anyways lol

and intruder x3 in your mind might of been more faithful but i will take a good less faithful movie over a terrible faithful one

@intruder

You do you know what adaptation means? Meaning, it's not going to be adapted word for word, or panel by panel? Most of the those things you mentioned that were changed really had no bearing on the story (except the the Stryker/Wolverine connection) or the overall meaning?

It perverted the original God Loves, Man Kills? Are you for real? lol
Ibz
Ibz - 12/22/2010, 11:47 AM
let me just state this because something is being adapted it does not mean it has to be a copy of page to page, look at nolans batman films the guy took inspiration from batman year one and long halloween and made his own story, but obviously some things should be kept the way they are.another example is RED it was drastically different from its source material but it was still good. obviously everyone would have loved the original 5 but we didnt get it.

I have no trouble with them taking some liberties in adapting a movie. Leaving out two prominent First Class members in the movie First Class is a little too much of a liberty for me. Especially, when they justify it by saying Cylcops would be too young, yet they have his even younger brother cast in the movie as a 20 year old actor. How can that make sense to anyone? Continuity? Hello?

If it doesn't feature the characters from Deadly Genesis, then it's not faithful! If the story isn't over 85% true to the actual source material, then it's not faithful. Plain & simple
