Daniel Craig suited-up as James Bond for the last time in the recent No Time To Die, and the search will soon begin for an actor to take up the 007 mantle. There have been rumors that everyone from Idris Elba to Michael Fassbender to Henry Cavill might be in the running, and another big name has now thrown his hat in the ring.
While chatting to Esquire, Dwayne Johnson (Black Adam, Red Notice) clearly stated that he wants to play James Bond.
“My grandfather [Peter Maivia] was a Bond villain in You Only Live Twice with Sean Connery. Very, very cool,” the former WWE Champion revealed. “I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond. I don’t want to be a villain. Gotta be Bond.”
We're not sure how serious he's being here, but Johnson offered up these quotes with very little prompting, so it sounds like it might be something he has given some thought to.
Be that as it may, the chances of Johnson actually landing the role are probably pretty slim, if for no other reason than he'd be the first non-British/Irish actor to play Bond. Of course, there's nothing to say Barbara Broccoli and co. won't break that tradition at some point.
