John Moore Signs Up To Direct Die Hard 5; Breck Eisner In The Running To Helm RED 2?

The Max Payne and Flight of the Phoenix director is in "final negotiations" to helm a fifth installment of the Die Hard franchise, while The Crazies' Breck Eisner is also in talks for the sequel to RED...

Deadline report that Behind Enemy Lines director John Moore is set to helm Die Hard 5, which will once again star Bruce Willis. According to the site, Fox were more than happy with their choice to hire the Irishman, but he still had to convince Willis that he was the right man for the job. His "love for the John McClane character, and his grasp of how to shoot practical, non-CGI-heavy action scenes" are said to have been what eventually swayed the actor. Meanwhile, Breck Eisner is said to be one of many names up for the task of directing RED 2. Below in an excerpt from the report, but be sure to click on the link below for more details.

After a long search process, 20th Century Fox and Bruce Willis have just chosen John Moore to direct Die Hard 5. The film will shoot in Russia, and the hope is to make it before Willis moves on to shoot a Red sequel for Summit Entertainment. In fact, Willis has just begun going through the same director search with Summit on a sequel to the 2010 hit Red. Robert Schwentke is busy helming Universal’s R.I.P.D. with Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds. They’ve just begun casting the dragnet for directors on that film. Names like Breck Eisner are being floated, but other shooters are being considered.

I'm definitely not sure how to feel about this! Moore's filmography is far from inspiring with such flops as Max Payne, and as someone who hated RED, a sequel is pretty much the last thing I want to see, regardless of who may or may not be up for the directors job. As usual, be sure to share your thoughts on this news in the usual place!

Moore could make a good Die Hard film. Behind Enemy Lines was decent action movie. And Flight of the Phoenix and The Omen were pretty faithful to the original versions.
But he still raped Max Payne!;)

Red 2? Yawn. Die Hard 5? Yawn (no premise, don't care).

Haven't seen the Die Hard films, but seems like they're really milking the franchise. Let it die for once.
Haver seen RED yet either, but a sequel wouldn't be bad.

How can you say they're milking the franchise if you've never seen any of the previous installments, and how is a sequel to RED a good idea if you've not seen the first one?!

@Josh Except for Star Wars and some other series' I can't think of ATM, I don't care for a film series to go beyond 3-4 films, anymore beyond that is usually in the milking phase (like Fast & Furious or even POTC) unless they come up with a compelling enough story to continue.

*singing* Yipee-kai-yayyyyyyyyyyyyy...motherfvckerrrr! It's catchy, in a Scottie Doesn't Know kind of way. lol.

Anyways, haven't seen Red but I'd be down with another installment of DH5. I'm not exactly happy with the choice of director but Behind Enemy Lines was decent and makes me a little more secure than mentioning he directed FLight of the Phoenix and Max Payne. *shudder* Anyways...

DIE! die! DIE! die! DIE! HARD! Yipee kai yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy...motherfvckerrrrrrrr!

Ugh, Max Payne director, thats enough to get worried about it, Max Payne was one of THE WORST movies I have ever seen

But I will still give it a chance because I bloody love Die Hard. But as some of you guys said, let it be closer to R rated than the last one.

I hope we get a Die Hard 6 evenutally too and then let the franchise finish forever before Bruce breaks his hip lol

A Red sequel? I dunno, I loved Red but I dont know where it could go next for a sequel

Live Free and Die Hard, Diehard With a Vengeance, and Diehard 1 are my favorite of this franchise, which is almost all of them lol. The acting in Die Hard 2 is so bad it's kinda hard to watch. Especially the black airport dispatcher guy who helps him out lol. The bad guy is awesome though, like usual.

With that being said, I can't wait for Die Hard 5. Bring it!

Max Payne wasn't a bad movie, it was a bad adaptation of a game. So if you played the games, you'd be let down. Most people had not, so they were lucky lol. If you look at it as if you didn't play the games, it wasn't a bad movie. The whole angel of death thing was really cool and unique. But maybe that's why I thought the movie was okay, cause other than that, I don't really care for it lol.

I loved the fourth installment, but felt strongly that it should have ended there. If this one is a turkey, and it well could be, it will end the franchise on a sour note. Sad.

They should put that song in the closing credits of DH5. It would be the perfect sendoff. lol.

"We're going to die as hard as weeeeee caannnnnnn....!"

The first and fourth die hard movies are easily the best action movies I've ever seen IMO, the first one for the great story and decent action, and the fourth for the great action and decent story. Didn't care for the second one, while the third was pretty good but not up to scratch with the first and last. Hope they don't screw up the fifth one, like DangWoodchuck said, would suck if they finish a classic action franchise on a sour note after the great fourth movie. Although apparently Willis wants to do a fifth and sixth movie before retiring the franchise for good.

I really enjoyed Die Hard 4 AND Red, so this is nothing but good news for me. I don't care if Bruce is all up his own ass now. He's one of the few dependable action stars STILL going.

Awesome. Love Die Hard but hated the second one but the last two were awesome. RED was great but I can't see how a sequel would be just as good. Maybe if they base it on the Eyes Only book where they go into detail about why Moses retired in the first place.
