The cast of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two continues to grow as director Chris McQuarrie has announced the addition of Inuit actress Lucy Tulugarjuk (Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner; Tia and Piujuq) and Rolf Saxon (Mission: ImpossibleTomorrow Never Dies) to the massive ensemble cast.

Saxon played CIA Analyst William Donloe in the original Mission: Impossible from 1996, and featured opposite Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt in the iconic vault scene, where the ace IMF agent managed to steal the NOC list right out from under him.

According to Variety, since the events of that movie, "Donloe was promptly fired and reassigned to a polar substation in Alaska," where it seems like he'll cross paths with Hunt again. Now, whether their second encounter will turn out more favorably for him remains to be seen, but it's certainly another cool callback to the Brian De Palma-directed classic that started this nearly thirty-year adventure.

Saxon is actually the fourth member of the cast (that we know of) that also appeared in the first Mission: Impossible film, joining Cruise, Ving Rhames, and  Henry Czerny.

Check out a first look below:

In addition to Cruise as the headliner, the highly anticipated McQ-directed action blockbuster will also see the return of Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust, Academy Award-nominee Vanessa Kirby as the White Widow, Frederick Schmidt as Zola, and Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge.

Newcomers to the franchise include Hayley Atwell (Avengers: EndgameCaptain America: The First Avenger) as Grace, Shea Whigham (Perry Mason; Marvel's Agent Carter), Pom Klementieff (Avengers: Endgame; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Esai Morales (TitansLa Bamba), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2Hobbs & Shaw), Cary Elwes (The Princess BrideSaw), Indira Varma (Game of ThronesCarnival Row), Mark Gatiss (The FatherThe Favourite), Charles Parnell (Top Gun: MaverickTransformers: Age of Extinction), Greg Tarzan Davis (Top Gun: MaverickGrey's Anatomy), Mariela Garriga (NCIS; NCIS: Los Angeles), Marcin Dorociński (The Queen's GambitVikings: Valhalla), Lampros Kalfuntzos (No Time to Die; Ted Lasso), and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso; Game of Thrones).

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One lights the fuse in theaters on July 14, 2023; with the rumored franchise finale, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, set to arrive the following year on June 28, 2024.

So hyped.

surprised they don't do something like bring in Angelina Jolie as Jim Phelps's daughter

@dracula - is there a basis for that? Because than it would be really cool

@tmp3

Lol yeah I saw it. Could be amazing or it could be a disappointment.

Either way, the premise sounds pretty great and a Pattinson/Downey Jr. dark comedy is something I would love to see. Hope it happens.

@dracula - That's pretty clever lol I don't think Angelina has been much for acknowledging her relationship with Jon Voigt publicly tho in the past
dracula
dracula - 3/24/2023, 1:34 PM
@UncleHarm1 - they seem to have a very rocky relationship with a lot of ups and downs
UncleHarm1
UncleHarm1 - 3/24/2023, 4:27 PM
@dracula - Have Jon Voigt show up and you think he came back to life after the first movie, then he takes the mask off and it was Angelina Jolie all along

@tmp3 - they might have not been as strong as the masterpiece that is The Big Short but I wouldn’t personally classify it as “ass” lol

Really hope this franchise also brings back Thandiwe Newton, Maggie Q and Paula Patton. Now that would be interesting.

Also, Alaska? Bet we're gonna see Cruise do some crazy stunts on a snowmobile.

mountainman - 3/24/2023, 1:14 PM
@bkmeijer1 - I would say I don’t want anything to do with the worst movie in the series, but Thandie Newton is a much better actress than she was then and I’d like to see her back.

@mountainman - that's the reason I wanna see her back, and indeed not because the second one was such a good movie

@bkmeijer1 - The most recent rewatch of the series, I skipped part 2. It’s kind of funny to laugh at, but it is so much worse than all the others that I’m not sure it’s worth the time for me to watch it. She wasn’t great in it, but she was nowhere near the worst part.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/24/2023, 6:00 PM
@mountainman - I'll probably give them a rewatch soon too, but I won't skip 2. I wanna see the slo-mo doves and flying motorcycles again.
mountainman
mountainman - 3/24/2023, 6:07 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Those are some of the highlights! Hunt’s super long hair, the really corny dialog, and that opening free solo climb scene are also up there!
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/24/2023, 6:24 PM
@mountainman - I'm still jealous of that man's hair in MI2

@bkmeijer1 - Switch out Thandiwe for Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and its perfect like the others have said, 2 has no place in canon

@dancingmonkey08 - completely forgot about him. That could a good comeback as well

Chills every time. I love this trailer more than is healthy.

ThorArms - 3/24/2023, 12:42 PM
No Patton or Renner. Sad Renner will be unlikely to join again, I wonder if Mcquarrie is giving one of these actors the role that was written for him
IronSpider101
IronSpider101 - 3/25/2023, 4:55 AM
@ThorArms - Yeah, I was really hoping they'd bring back Renner but it seems almost certainly a no go at this point. Unless he's got a brief walk on cameo or something, but even then I imagine they won't waste time with it.

Patton would be great to see, I'd completely forgotten about her but I loved her character. Was disappointed she never stuck around.
TheLobster

They’re gonna close this franchise out on [frick]ing top and I can’t wait!!

(.. until Paramount stupidly tries to reboot it in a few years and it low key flops like the Bourne Legacy)
bl0odwerk
bl0odwerk - 3/24/2023, 12:47 PM
@TheLobster - I have hope since Tom is basically in charge of the franchise. I'm guessing, if it continues on after he hangs it up (physically), he'll still be heavilly involved with it's production and direction (I hope). Don't mind seeing the IMF expand with new agents as long as TC's level-headedness when it comes to film-making is in charge.
TheLobster
TheLobster - 3/24/2023, 4:53 PM
@bl0odwerk - if they can keep the quality when it comes to action/story/cinematography/directing/etc. then I wouldn’t mind this either.. but that is a tall order.

You would have to get some REALLY capable folks in to make that happen,

The most important question this film needs to answer is…

Did the CIA actually mail that guy his clothes?

By the time this is wrapped up, the only hiccup anyone will be able to point to is MI:2. Aside from that, it'll go down as one of the best action franchises of all time.
MotherGooseUPus
MotherGooseUPus - 3/24/2023, 2:37 PM
@bl0odwerk - correction. "THE BEST ACTION FRANCHISE OF ALL TIME" Now we're good.
bl0odwerk
bl0odwerk - 3/24/2023, 5:52 PM
@MotherGooseUPus - I think so, too, but I'm biased. Some might say John Wick.
MotherGooseUPus
MotherGooseUPus - 3/27/2023, 7:28 AM
@bl0odwerk - John Wick is 2nd to MI, but that's just me. Haven't seen JW 4 yet, going this coming Sunday... but even without seeing it, MI is the best, imo

Was always irritated that they flipped the 'Jim Phelps' (Jon Voight) character into a bad guy. I wish they'd have found a way to re-write/fix that.

Waiting impatiently for Maggie Q (MI3) and Paula Patton (MI:GP) to return.

One thing I enjoy about the M:I movies is their respect for continuity. While every movie is (mostly) a standalone mission, the characters’ personal histories don’t get erased from film to film.

Really excited to see this series wrap up in a good way. Craig’s Bond got such a disappointing last movie. MI has just gotten better over time.

Almost every character gets to return other than most previous female leads. Kinda seeing a pattern.
