Sylvester Stallone's voice message reveals that Rambo will be fighting a "feral beast" in Rambo 5!

Our friends over at AICN recently posted a story about how Rambo 5 is shaping up to be another Universal Soldier, that laughable 1992 action movie starring Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Apparently, they got it all wrong because Sylvester Stallone himself called AICN to set the record straight about Rambo 5 and it's pretty incredible:

"It's not a Universal Soldier, it's not me fighting some super-soldier, it's actually a feral beast. It's a thing, it's this amalgamation of fury and intelligence and pure unadulterated rage. It's before men became human. This is when they were still inhuman. And, so, what he confronts is everyone's virtual nightmare...he's going against a feral beast that has absolute cunning and intelligence and a will to survive that is only matched by Rambo's, and that what makes it uniquely different. It's like man's conscience fighting his dark, dangerous, uncontrollable sub-conscious.

It's your worst nightmare. You're battling your primitive self, which has a lot more cunning and power than than you could have ever imagined."

Whether this is an important evolutionary step (pun intended) in the Rambo franchise or the evidence that its about to jump the shark is open to debate.

I figured Rambo would be battling the Social Security department to fix his retirement benefits.

Sounds like Predator, which is funny because the original inspiration for Predator was a hypothetical "What if Rocky Balboa fought an alien?" question from one of the producers.

@kitboy33: The Winnah!

@Bijous: That's right, I heard that somewhere too. I think it was in a recent article that talked about the changes in visual design or something, right?

lol, i read a few variations of this but hadn't heard what he actually said in his voice mail. Pretty ridiculous. But i guess the Rambo movies were never exactly down to earth. Maybe this beastie will be worth watching...but probably not.

Yea, it was about Robert Rodriguezs new movie, Predators and they said that ideas were being thrown around for a new Rocky movie and they thought about having him fight an alien.

Another interesting this is the original predator moster was like a fat Gamorean Guard-type pig monster.

I SO don't want to see this movie.
At All.
Ever.
Not even on video.
TV world premier.
Not even 1:00AM between infomercials.
Really....
I started hating this franchise when I first watched the adds for "First Blood Part 2" ,I mean c'mon that name alone tells you these people aren't playin with a full deck.

This movie shouldn't be made. Rambo(4) was alright and an acceptable conclusion to the series...then Stallone decided he wants to make another one.

How strange.. The Rambo franchise turns to sci fi. That's a pretty strange turn of events considering how solid the last film was. They surprised everyone and now this

A monster or Horror movie is unlikely. Its sounds more like a Sci-Fi flick. I'll watch it regardless, after all it is Rambo and I really enjoyed the last one. At least this won't be a prequel set before part 2 which was the prequel to part one, yeah that would be confusing however it would match the Hollywood trend. Seeing Rambo take on someone that would be as crazy and ravage as him would hold some entertainment value. I don't think it will be a beast of any sort, more like a genetically altered man. It sounds like they are going for the same formula that made the Terminator films popular by pitting Arnolds Terminator against a tuffer more formadable advisary. I have hopes for this film.

I liked universal soldier, not sure what was laughable about it. Was a good movie when it came out. I think conan the barbarian is laughable but I know it was good when it came out...

I think this could be a good movie and a good direction for rambo. Feral means something that was raised in the wilderness, moreso a person. A wild creature. I think this could be touching on the idea of bigfoot, tho in a better direction than the 1967 petterson film. Some theories on bigfoot suggest it is a neanderthal. The humanoid looking apeman that we split off from as a species. If thats the case then he needs to be all muscle and a giant. A down right brutal animal of scary proportions. The real trick to fear and terror is feeling helpless. I would feel pretty helpless if a giant beast feral neanderthal was coming right at me to kill me. Like a grisly bear. The only thing you can do is run and hide, then kill it with your wit. The thing that makes you human.

Thats the same direction that took place in predator now that i think about it. It attacked them, he outran it, discovered a weakness, then fought back.

Well, we all know what gun Ron Jeremy's bringin' to the fight.

Dude, this just cracks me up. Rambo already IS A MONSTER MOVIE, and the monster is Stallone himself lol... The original 85 year old zombie supersoldier. When I was like 9 Rambo was cool, now, if I want to watch a war movie I'll watch Apocalypse Now, or The Deer Hunter.
