Writer-director
Sylvester Stallone loaded up his new movie,
The Expendables with '80s and '90s action heroes and said that he wanted to make the film
the way films used to be made:
"Today, technically, we're incredibly gifted and versatile with CGI, and I wanted to do a film that was more about men, doing things that we did back in the '80s and '90s that were a little more mano a mano — actual, physical stunts."
Unfortunately for Sly, real physical stunts resulted in a real physical injury. Stallone recently revealed to
FHM magazine that co-star "Stone Cold"
Steve Austin ended up
putting the hurt on Stallone during one of the fight sequences.
"Man, it was seven guys, kicking each other's ass, one guy tougher than the next. No joke, our stunt guys were begging for mercy.
Actually, my fight with Stone Cold Steve Austin was so vicious that I ended up getting a hairline fracture in my neck. I'm not joking.
"I haven't told anyone this, but I had to have a very serious operation afterwards. I now have a metal plate in my neck."
The Expendables also stars
Dolph Lundgren,
Jason Statham,
Jet Li,
Mickey Rourke,
Randy Couture and
Terry Crews, with cameos by
Arnold Schwarzenegger and
Bruce Willis.
The Expendables opens August 10, 2010!
UPDATE: Apparently, so many people doubted that Stallone's injury was real that he sent an x-ray showing the break to StalloneZone with the following note:
"For the doubters and the haters, a picture is worth a thousand words. You walk the walk, you pay a price. But, as bad as it was at least we have it on film.
Keep punchin’
Sly
P.S. To the haters, I don’t need to invent pain, there’s enough of it out there to go around.
P.S.S. The reason I was never seen in a neck brace is because I stayed home for three weeks to heal.
P.S.S.S. Van Damme may mean a great deal to some of you, but what he’s putting forth is not truthful."
UPDATE 2: More X-Ray pics!
