Warner Bros. Has Two Tarzan Projects in Development

Warner Bros. has put two scripts into development with the intention of bringing Edgar Rice Burroughs' jungle king Tarzan back to the big screen.

Deadline reports that the first is being written by Adam Cozad, who wrote the early drafts of the Jack Ryan reboot that will star Chris Pine (and is being rewritten by David Koepp) and Archangel. The other is being written by Craig Brewer. Once both scripts are handed in, the studio will decide which it feels will make a better vehicle for Tarzan.

A live action Tarzan film would be interesting. I saw parts of the much older real live action movie of Tarzan that was in black and white (I don't know the title or who starred). It was okay but it made me want to see a modern take.

But I always found it interesting to see a serious take on the tale and how a wild Tarzan would really react to seeing a female human for the first time and how they would communicate and fall in love.

If it looks good I will definitely see it.

Disney's Tarzan was a classic though.

Does anyone remember that horrible tarzan tv show from the late 90's or early 2000's? I don't think it ran long.

I don't know about this, it seems it would be hard to bring Tarzan to the screen without it being campy. I hope I'm proved wrong though.

well if it's WB, you know Tarzan is gonna be some suit-wearing corporate executive living in NYC. when he changes into Tarzan, instead of a loincloth, he wears red, white, and blue running shorts.

The Tarzan film that starred Christopher Lambert, to me, was the closest in realizing Burrough's vision. It was a great first act and subsequent sequels could have had him portraying the more heroic role. That Tarzan acted like a wild man raised by apes. Great movie, beautifully filmed, excellent story and the acting was top notch.

Tarzan has always been my favorite fictional character and despite countless films no one has gotten it close to the novels. Greystoke came the closest but lacked action. A sequel would have been great. I want to see a true period Tarzan with jungle action. And Tarzan has encountered dinosaurs in the novels set in the lost world of Pellucidar.

I've read the first 11 stories and there's no hint of dinosaurs. If I'm wrong about the later stories I apologise.I'd like to point out that that top pic is a comicbook based on R-B's Tarzan though and not one of his stories. The bottom pic says Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan and not BY Edgar R-B too.I'm gonna have to look up the later books....
BTW I've nothing against the inclusion of dinosaurs,I've just never come across them in his original stories...yet.
Also bear in mind that there were ALOT of Tarzan books published that were writen by other authors under the 'Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan' tagline.Burroughs' own stories all have titles such as Tarzan of the Apes,Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar etc etc etc Not just 'Tarzan' as above :)

There's never been a really faithful adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan on the screen (the Christopher Lambert one flirts, but doesn't quite get there), and I am seriously doubting that we will get it this time either.

Probably more like Stephanie Meyer's Tarzan, or something equally inane and opening-weekend-oriented.

Read every Tarzan book that Burroughs wrote. I would welcome a well-made Tarzan film.

I think the ERB novels are available from Tor books. Could be wrong, though. As far as the clean shaven thing, I believe in the first novel there is a scene in which, after he discovers the knife near his parents old hut and later encounters humans for the first time, he puts it together that he is more like the humans physically and he uses the knife to shave in emmulaion of them. He would be about 16-19 years old at that point.
