During a new interview, Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan says he doesn't see his character, Killmonger, as a villain as rumors that the actor is set to reprise the role for Wakanada Forever persist.

Was Killmonger a villain? This question has been debated back and forth ever since Black Panther hit theaters in 2018, with some seeing the character as a ruthless antagonist whose violent actions were necessary, and others believing he was no more than a cold-blooded killer using the plight of his people as an excuse to amass more power.

It's an interesting discussion, for sure, and actor Michael B. Jordan has now made his feelings on the matter very clear.

During an interview with Bleacher Report, the Creed star was asked for his take on Killmonger's status as a villain. "No... he cared about his people just as much as T'Challa. He just had a different way of going about getting it done."

Jordan returned to voice Eric Killmonger for the animated What If...? Disney+ series, but there have been persistent rumors that the actor may reprise the role in live-action for the upcoming Black Panther sequel. This always seemed like a long shot considering the character died at the end of the first film, but a new report claims to shed some light on how T'Challa's nemesis could be brought back.

Possible SPOILERS for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever follow.

According to Screen Geek, Killmonger will not return in physical form, but will appear as a spirit guide, of sorts, in the Ancestral Plane as a "mentor to a young hero." The source may be sketchy, but this does actually line-up with something KC Walsh (who has a far better track record) mentioned during a recent podcast appearance.

This "young hero" could be several different characters, including Shuri (Letitia Wright), but something tells is it'll turn out to be... yeah, that's also a potentially major spoiler, so click here if you want to know more!

Killmonger's coming back.

@dracula - I've watched that scene over and over trying to figure out where Spider-Man showed off his strength and where Cap would think, "oh dropping this one ton scaffold won't kill him". Being agile and able to punch and kick Cap would not show off how strong he is. Punching power has nothing to do with strength, well with Spider-Man it would, but still, Cap has been punched by Thanos and survived, so there was no way to gauge Spider-Man's strength and how much he can lift based on a couple of seconds of them being in a fight.

I remember when people got upset at Iron Man for taking a kid to a fight. I used to say, "well nobody was out to kill each other" But I was wrong, the people that were upset were correct, Captain America was there to kill when he dropped that platform on Spider-Man.

Makes sense if he returns. MBJ has been in every Coogler movie obviously and he said he wants him in every film he does.

@AscendedExtra - it comes from our illiterate society's obsession with using group identities and assigned collective guilt to replace individual responsibility. Sad.

I know it's not a popular opinion, but I really do think they need to find a way to have him redeem himself and come back to take over the Black Panther role, whether it's a variant of some kind or whatever. He has the charisma and star power to lead that franchise for a long time.

@MonroeArtStudio - the variant seems to be the way to go in my opinion.

Could see it be the case that Killmonger's dad didn't get killed by T'Chaka and instead they returned to Wakanda where Killmonger (or rather as N'Jadaka) became the Black Panther.

@MonroeArtStudio - Yea... a Variant would be a good way to go and what we just got, and that proved that he was truly a Villain, literally taking the infinity stones for himself and using them against his own team.

So... My assumption would be it would be most Variants would be villains as well. Like in Loki when they showed all his Variants, MOST were villains.

That's classic villain talk. Ofcourse Killmonger would see him as the hero in his own story.

As for him returning, I could see him be a return in the Ancestral Plane. Although rather I just see them find a way to have T'Challa return in that role

@bkmeijer - exactly. If you look at someone like Hitler for example, he saw himself as strengthening both his country and the world at large. Is that not caring about the people/human race to a similar extent as tchalla? Yet we can all agree Hitler is unquestionably evil.

After watching Fant4stic for the first time yesterday, I’m very very pleased he got this role. They should have kept him around and not offed him that’s my only gripe but he played the character well

The writers of What if..? made him into a villain. No matter the circumstances he turned into a villain.. This is not how I saw the character in Black Panther. He wasn't evil in nature. That's the thing I disliked most about What If..?

I mean, Killmonger sees himself as a hero where he is trying to save his people, but it's a classic two wrongs don't make a right scenario.

"No... he cared about his people just as much as T'Challa. He just had a different way of going about getting it done"

You can care about your people and still be a villain. Dr Doom is notoriously ruthless and evil... But he still loves his Latverian people. In fact, he pampers them.

"I'll ship Wakandan weapons to every part of the world and see how that turns out" seems like textbook villain stuff to me

He was a villain

Magneto and Doctor Doom also care about their people, doesnt make them any less evil when they try to commit horrible things
