THE SIMPSONS Showrunner Just Pitched A Perfect Ending To The Long Running Series

This fall, The Simpsons will kick off its thirtieth season on Fox but when showrunner Al Jean was asked how the series should end, he pitched what many fans will surely agree would be a perfect ending...

As of right now, there's no end in sight for The Simpsons and while many people seem to agree that the show isn't quite as good as it once was, it remains an entertaining enough twenty minutes each week. During Comic-Con this weekend, Fox was hyping what will be the 30th season of the long-running animated series but one fan couldn't help but wonder how it could end somewhere down the line.

It's never easy to conclude a beloved TV show but showrunner Al Jean pitched a perfect idea which would essentially mean The Simpsons never ends and lives on forever. "I thought the final episode could end with them going to the Christmas pageant they went to in the first episode, so the whole series is one loop without a beginning or an end," he said. "But now that I’ve said it, it won’t happen. Thank you." That's kind of a shame, especially as it would be such a cool way to wrap things up.

With Disney buying Fox, it's highly unlikely that The Simpsons will be going anywhere, especially as they could incorporate the family into their theme parks. How would you like the show to end? Do you think this idea would work? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

The Simpsons should’ve ended a long time ago. It was great in the 90’s, but is a now caricature of itself.

I couldn’t even imagine someone binge-watching 30 seasons of this.

@mgeoff88 - I never watch the Simpsons in season order and I never watch new episode when it aired only 2 episode at a time during 90s and I never keep a scheduled

Kinda genius, but the show does have a continuity, a strange one sure, nobody ages, but characters have died in the series so a loop wouldn't really fit. Still a cool idea, a show will have to go a long way to beat TNG's series finale. Quantum Leaps was brave but upsetting, poor Sam, deep cuts.

@ARMUS - The Quantum Leap series finale was upsetting. They even mispelled Sam’s last name in the final caption. I will say though, him sacrificing his chance to leap back home to save Al’s first marriage (to his one true love) was very Sam. I just wish he got a happy ending too. Especially when you think about all the good he did.

@mgeoff88 - Right there with you on that, agree 100%.

Eh, I'd prefer a different ending. But who are we all kidding? This show will be on the air long after we're all 6 feet under.

Remember that episode where Homer got roasted and they played that “You’ll never stop the simpsons” song? Pretty sure that was foreshadowing.

I'm pretty sure some fan had this idea, a long time ago...

He first said this in 2015 I think. It's a idea he's had for a while.

Yeah this is very old news, he probably just said it again recently. Also, Disney would not be able to incorporate them into their parks because universal owns the park rights. Disney still can’t even use Marvel in their Orlando parks yet outside of Guardians of the Galaxy

I gotta say, I love this show, & the first 10 seasons can go toe to toe with pretty much any run from any other show, but this show needed to end awhile ago. I've tried to continue watching it, but the last few seasons have had a noticeable drop off even from just like 5 years ago.

No show needs to go beyond 30 seasons. Honestly, no show needs to go beyond 20 seasons but here we are. It's just a bummer that a show that was once undoubtedly one of the best on TV (& of all time), now will have been not that great (or not good at all) for by far the majority of its run.

I think they should go this 30th season, then if they really want to, they can wrap things up with one more movie. This is really getting ridiculous. End this show while the legacy is still somewhat intact.

Not bad. I liked it when he first pitched it 3 years ago.
This poor show should've been done at season 15. 1-10 are [frick]in gold. Solid, tight writing. It wasn't until 10 that some cracks were really coming to light. But even 11-15 had some decent episodes. 15 seasons and a bunch of movies is what they should've done.

Didn’t Conan O’Brien have an idea for an ending?

I'd end it with them all getting thrown in jail under a Good Samaritan law for not helping Barney when he gets carjacked.

The Simpsons are my biggest concern with this Fox/Disney merger..I know show's like Bob's Burgers, Family Guy, American Dad etc will be fine on TBS or Cartoon Network etc..but I'm concerned with what happens with The Simpsons. The show isn't as good as it used to be..I think I liked/watched like 4-5 episodes this season..Didn't see any Itchy or Scratchy, and they're way more concerned with drama issues than being funny..Who cares if Homer is getting to old to play with Bart..Really?..But in the same vain, I don't want to see Disney water-down the property even-more for kids..Look at the Muppets, not at satirical as it used to be, look at Star Wars..disrespecting the elders for fresh faces..Only time will tell..

when it first came out, I watched it almost every episode
over time
I slow down,
I still watch it every now and then, yesterday I watched it
and still pretty entertaining

I don't get the hate about this show,
I guess ppl want a more serious? gritty and/or raunchy show now ?

anyhow

I still like it.
