Universal Pictures and Dreamworks Animation have released an action-packed new trailer for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the long-awaited sequel to their 2011 blockbuster, which grossed over $555 million worldwide and spawned a spinoff series The Adventures of Puss in Boots on Netflix.
The film will pick up at a time when the titular hero has lost eight of his nine lives and suddenly finds himself forced into an early retirement. However, trouble isn't far behind as he and Kitty soon go up against the notorious Goldilocks and the Three Bears Crime Family.
Antonio Banderas returns as the voice of the fan-favorite hero, with a supporting cast featuring Salma Hayek as Kitty Softpaws, Harvey Guillén as Perro, Florence Pugh as Goldilocks, John Mulaney as "Big" Jack Horner, Wagner Moura as the Big Bad Wolf, Olivia Colman as Mama Bear, Ray Winstone as Papa Bear, Samson Kayo as Baby Bear, Da'Vine Joy Randolph as Mama Luna, and Anthony Mendez in an undisclosed role.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish opens in theaters on December 21, and it sounds like it'll have its work cut out for it as it opens directly opposite Warner Bros.' Shazam! Fury of the Gods and a week after 20th Century Studios' Avatar: The Way of Water.

The character of Puss in Boots first appeared in 2004’s Oscar®-nominated Shrek 2 and instantly became a global, scene-stealing sensation.
