Screenwriters Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer(who wrote the upcoming Conan the Barbarian reboot) have been writing a script for the big screen treatment for 1984 cartoon Voltron. Some concept art had also leaked last fall. Now, that means this could finally actually happen after years of ups and downs.

Here is what Vulture had to say about the specifics of the bidding war:

World Events executive VP Robert Koplar (son of Ted) declined to comment on whether Relativity Media would release the Voltron film itself (entirely possible, given its absorption of two-thirds of the staff of Overture Films last year) or if World Events's recent deal with Viacom’s Nicktoons means that sister company Paramount Pictures could handle it, but he did note that development is proceeding apace, and that regardless, the film will likely be ready to hit theaters by 2013 or by 2014.

So it looks like were getting a voltron movie by 2013 or by 2014. What do you guys think?

@blazingkidtes There is a Robotech film in development. Tobey Maguire is signed on to play the lead. Now it was a while back when Tobey Maguire signed on to the film but its still in development, looking for a studio too, like voltron.

I hope this is true, and I would also love to see an Evangelion live action film, along with Mobile Suit Gundam.

I love Voltron. The theme tune was brillant and I hope they can get Peter Cullan (Optimus Prime) to be the narrator again, "From times of long ago..."
I don't know what it was about this show but whenever Voltron summoned the blazing sword, you just knew it was all over for the bad guys.
I'd like to see Voltron's fellow anime's, which were on at the same time, Robotech and Battle of the Planets/Gatchaman make onto the big screen.

Also does anyone remember the The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers. God 80s and 90s cartoons were the best.

I hope they are very careful. I love Voltron, but it could get very close to looking like a Power Ranger movie. And NO ONE wants that.

I'm so pissed! Love Voltron & Superman, too bad were gonna miss seeing both those movies because of the impending apocalypse in 2012. At least we will still get to see Dark Knight Rises.
