CONFIRMED: New GHOST IN THE SHELL Trailer Will Be With Us This Monday; Check Out A New TV Spot

We heard from Scarlett Johansson earlier today, and now you can see her in action as The Major in a new TV promo for Rupert Sanders' live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. The spot mostly reuses footage from earlier teasers, but there are a few new shots in there, as well as a couple of lines of dialogue we haven't heard before.

The vid accompanies Paramount's announcement that we'll finally see that new trailer at some point this Monday, so keep an eye on CBM for that.

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Rupert Sanders is at the helm of Ghost in the Shell, which also stars Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, “Beat” Takeshi Kitano, Michael Wincott, and Pilou Asbæk, and is set for release on March 31, 2017.

@grif - not really the movie comes out in a month. This will most likely be the last trailer we get from this movie. It has only had 2 main trailers and a bunch of TV spots this is the norm.

Apparently the Inhumans show is spending about 80-100 million in Hawaii alone. I found the info from a journalist on his own private time. I'm not sure the validity of it, but I believe it's true.

I don't think that this will do well at all... Too weird for mainstream audiences.

@DaScarlettFever - Yeah, but that had the "What if you could use 100% of your brain?" plot pitch, which is nonsense, but still... people went to it thinking they understood what it was going to be about.

I don't think that people who aren't already familiar with Ghost in the Shell have any idea what this film is going to be about.

@DaScarlettFever - I could very well be wrong, and Scarlet Johansson is definitely a selling point. I just fear that the wider audience likes to have their high concepts as dressing on a more easily-digestible plot, at least for the trailers and whatnot.

The ad above is a step in the right direction... If the ad campaign does a good enough job of laying out the basics to people (this is the hero, this is the conflict, this is what they're trying to accomplish) then I think it might be better received by the average filmgoer, personally.

I have zero nostalgic attachment to this property...which scares any studio. My body is hook free and right now the marketing campaign for this endevour is just not doing enough to generate any semblance of excitement to get my money in the theatre for 'GINTS'.

With Logan, Kong, B&B and Power Rangers...something just needs to be left for Netflix or Red Box.
