For those of you hoping to see an adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's hit manga series any time soon, James Cameron has some disappointing news for you. While we've already heard that the project may be on hold until as late as 2016, some wondered whether the director would either end up starting work on it sooner or pass the directing reigns on to someone else. Talking to MTV Splash Page, Cameron made it clear that isn't the case, revealing that the next two instalments in the Avatar franchise are his top priority.
"I see the good the 'Avatar' franchise can do in terms of keeping a world audience cognizant of our relationship with nature, but doing it in an entertainment context. Ultimately I think there's more good to be done there than with 'Battle Angel.' 'Battle Angel' is just a great, kick ass story. It would have to be pried out of my cold dead fingers. But on the other hand, I don't want to take it to my grave either. [We want to see it] at some point, yeah."
