New Kid's Cartoon On The Way Featuring SHE-ZOW; The Transgender Superhero

Kid's cable channel The Hub will debut an animated series called She-Zow, about a boy who uses a magic ring to transform himself into a superhero..that happens to be a girl! Read on for more info and a teaser pic.

Transgenderism seems to have been explored quite a bit in comics recently (Batgirl, Storm Dogs, FF, Red Hood And The Outlaws etc) and now it'll be the basic for a new cartoon. But while those comic books are aimed at teens, She-Zow will target a younger audience in an attempt to raise awareness and promote understanding of the concept early on.



"A 12-year-old boy — named Guy — uses a magic ring to transform himself into a legendary crime fighter. When evil lurks, Guy says, “You go girl!” and becomes SheZow."

Honestly what the heck lol. I mean I'm 19 and was exposed to some stuff as a kid (censorship was less an issue in the 90s), but this is just so out there, in your face and ridiculous. I get what they're doing, and it would be fine with the right intentions. If they're doing it for the sole purpose of raising tolerance, parents aren't doing their jobs right

It's just another version of Ranma 1/2. Every time Ranma is in contact with water he changes... He to she and she to he. Weird idea for the Hub... It works with anime though.

Are the guy and the chick separate characters in a billy/captain marvel kinda way or the same character that changes gender? If they're separate characters then it could provide some interesting scenarios. If not then it's a little too much

As a transgender individual I'm very much in support of this. The fact that it's being met with such resistance and opposition just goes to show why it's necessary.

That said, considering the "gender transformation" aspect seems to be based more on a property of the super-powered ring and has nothing to do with the character's own personal gender identity, I don't think She-Zow could accurately be described as "transgender".

It's not REALLY transgender true..I mean the kid isn't having an operation, it's magic. But obviously the point is to promote awareness. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I don't think it will do kids any harm, but at the same time it's not like homosexuality in that it IS a lot more confusing an issue, and I think it could wait until they're older.

Some of you people are just straight up ignorant bigots. Unlike homosexuality Transgenderism is an actual disorder called Gender dysphoria. Transgender people CAN NOT HELP feeling the way they feel. They have actually done brain studies on trans people and found that they actually have brain structures opposite to their sex.
