From Spider-Man to Robotech

The man behind the Spider-man mask, Toby Maguire, is set to develop a movie centering around cult 80’s cartoon classic Robotech. In conjunction with Warner Bros., who negotiated the deal, Maguire hopes to also fill out the starring role.

"We are very excited to bring 'Robotech' to the big screen," Maguire said. "There is a rich mythology that will be a great foundation for a sophisticated, smart and entertaining film."

Producing under his Maguire Entertainment (oooh, original), the movie will also be produced by Drew Crevello under his Supercool Hollywood BigTime Prods. Craig Zahler, is penned to, uh, pen the screenplay!

For the uninitiated, Robotech is a classic anime series that combined to re-edited and re-dialogue three Japanese anime series to fill out an entire syndicated series. Sound confusing? You’re probably right, but nonetheless, it was a big hit, featuring giant robots that would defend earth three successive times against Alien invasion.

I hadn’t dedicated much of my youth to Robotech, but it appeals to me now that I’m vaguely grown up, so as long as Maguire stays well away from the main role (which I’m not putting money on), I should be right to watch this one!
