Ant-Man and the Wasp's main antagonist was Ava Starr, aka Ghost, played by Hannah John-Kamen in the character's MCU debut. While Ghost was an adversary to the team for much of the film, she wasn't truly a villain and had left her dastardly ways behind after Janet van Dyne helped stabilize her quantum energy issues.
Ghost was fairly well received by most viewers, with people wishing there were more scenes involving her. With Ghost survivng the events of the film and sticking around, fans have begun to wonder whether Ava Starr will reapear in phase 4 of the MCU. The mid-credits scene indicates that Ghost is possibly working with Scott and the van Dynes, and Scott is sent into the quantum realm to retrieve healing particles for his new phasing friend.
When asked by
Birth.Movies.Death about whether there may be a role for Ghost in the future of the MCU, Kevin Feige had the following to say:
It varies. In this case, the story was always – spoiler! – to keep her around. This was not the story of defeating a villain and everybody cheering. This is a different kind of villain story. When and where – in the tag, he mentions 'his new Ghost friend' – is something we’ll see. But there’s nothing better than struggling over the decision about what characters to bring into a movie, casting those characters, writing and putting them together in a way that works in the movie, and then have audiences go 'we love them, when are we going to see them again?' Shuri for sure is a great example of that. So with Ghost it is, step one: complete. As for step two, we’ll see where we go with that.
It certainly seems like Feige is interested in Ghost appearing again in a future MCU installment. A third
Ant-Man film seems like the most likely place for Ava Starr to reappear, especially if her father is being set up as the villainous Egghead. However, Ghost could also be used to introduce an MCU team of reformed villains in a potential
Thunderbolts film, something that Hannah John-Kamen herself has expressed interested in.
