ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: Paul Rudd Weighs In On The Partnership Between Scott Lang And Hope Van Dyne

The Wasp most definitely isn't a sidekick in the upcoming Ant-Man sequel because Paul Rudd talks here about the equal partnership between the two heroes and his excitement working with Michelle Pfeiffer.

The excitement surrounding Ant-Man and The Wasp is only just beginning to build (we have Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War to get through first) but the news that Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne is receiving equal billing in the sequel was welcomed by fans. Now, star Paul Rudd has confirmed that The Wasp won't be a sidekick in the movie; instead, the two heroes will definitely be partners.

Also below, the actor talks about what a thrill it was to work with legends like Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer in the Marvel Studios release and it sounds like we can expect plenty from them too.

There's a very good chance we won't see a teaser trailer for Ant-Man and The Wasp until Avengers: Infinity War is released but it's also possible something could come before then as that would be a little late to kick off the sequel's marketing campaign. Either way, it's clear we have a lot to look forward to.

Just curious: someone who reads Catwoman comics pls tells me whether Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman is comic accurate or not because I really like her performance in Batman Returns

It all started not so long ago. There was such an uproar over Scott Lang being the lead, but it's Paul Rudd so come on.

@MosquitoFarmer -

It's mostly because Hank Pym was the original and people were worried he would be skipped over completely with Scott Lang being the original. Then it became a factor that Hank Pym as a character is a lot more interesting than Scott Lang.

Plus it is a waste of potential, instead of a trilogy based on Hank Pym and Janet we get a trilogy based on Ant-Man and Hope with elements of Hank Pym and Janet thrown in. In a long-term franchise like the MCU imagine if we'd seen the series build up from Hank Pym to Scott Lang over the course of several movies.

@Scarilian - IMO we can really blame Wright for this. If his deadlines had been kept we could have had Hank and Janet in the Avengers (ignoring any of the A4 stuff); and possibly even had Hank be the one to mess up Ultron, or at least team up with Tony.

@MosquitoFarmer - People don't seem to get that Marvel is constantly adding more to the character dynamics in each movie they release. People pro government, people against, young actors, old actors, couples, family focused heroes, team dynamics versus solo, kids kidnapped and raised by space people, lab test animals, other forms of life like sentient trees, and in Scott Lang they brought in a troubled man and a mentor and something lost from the past that needs to be recovered. It makes sense that Pym was tied to the old Stark and likely had his hands in several things like the 'Ultron protocol' that Tony revived.

Can you imagine how boring it would be if everyone was the same age, the same basic background, the same basic goal... burnout on heroes would occur so quickly at the cinema.

@Scarilian - having backstory built into character > starting from scratch. espcallly if you want to build a universe wth a lot of characters within them.

and also hank creating ultron would not have made that movie better just because its comic accurate

@DoubleD -

I'd hope that at the end of Black Panther we'd get the new trailer for Infinity War, similar to how we got the trailer to Avengers at the end of Captain America.

No teaser until Infinity War? Yeah that’s not happening. Teasers usually come out 5 months before so we could get one before BP. If they are smart they will have the teaser attached to Black Panther. That way Black Panther which is HUGE will serve as free advertising for Infinity a War and Ant-Man and the Wasp.
