Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania director Peyton Reed has said in numerous interviews that his goal with the threequel was to make it more than just another palette cleanser.
While it's definitely far more epic than its predecessors, the Ant-Man Family's trip into the Quantum Realm has not received an overly positive response from critics. Most fans agree that they missed the grounded shenanigans of Ant-Man and The Wasp, with many supporting characters sorely missed during the course of this adventure.
Talking to Yahoo Entertainment, Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Evangeline Lilly (The Wasp), and Kathryn Newton (Cassie Lang) all agreed that they'd like Ant-Man 4 to dial things down a little.
"I can't imagine where you [would go]," Rudd says. "How do you get bigger? And where do you go from here?"
"[When] I think about it, it's like this regular guy who has no innate super ability whatsoever has now gone head-to-head with Thanos and Kang," the actor continues. "I just feel like, cut the guy a break. Just let him sit on a beach somewhere. How much abuse can he take? How much punishment?"
"I do think this is a guy who really just wants to spend some time with his daughter. That would be nice."
Lilly added, "Ant-Man, the original, is still my favourite. I think I would [dial Ant-Man 4 down] if I was the director, or the writer, or Kevin Feige."
As for Newton, while she's a newcomer to this franchise, it sounds like she really enjoyed the approach taken in the first two instalments of the franchise. "I really like the down-to-earth Ant-Man. I loved Ant-Man and the Wasp. I like how they’re normal."
We're not going to put words into the mouths of the actors here, but it's hard not to wonder whether shooting 99% of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania in The Volume proved tiresome. Watching the movie, it was apparent that in most scenes, only the cast and a handful of props were real!
