After it was revealed that Loki star Jonathan Majors has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman, the internet was quick to start tearing the actor down. However, what initially appeared to be a career-ending incident could blow over sooner than anticipated.
Major's lawyer has issued a statement to Deadline in which she makes it clear there is evidence that proves her client's innocence.
"Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows," Priya Chaudhry tells the trade. "We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently."
She adds that the "evidence includes video footage from the vehicle where this episode took place, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the episode, and most importantly, two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations."
"All the evidence proves that Mr. Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever."
"Unfortunately, this incident came about because this woman was having an emotional crisis, for which she was taken to a hospital yesterday," the lawyer added. "The NYPD is required to make an arrest in these situations, and this is the only reason Mr. Majors was arrested. We expect these charges to be dropped soon."
While we're by no means diminishing the alleged victim's claims, this sounds very definitive and it really does seem as if Majors' name will soon be cleared.
There have been some pretty damning, and currently baseless, comments made about the Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania star on social media, but nothing that's opened the floodgates to any sort of "cancellation."
Majors was arrested on Saturday in New York City on charges that included assault, strangulation and harassment. We're guessing an official update on the situation will come our way tomorrow, so keep checking back here for the latest.
