Hey guys! Just a quick disclaimer: I don't know much about Ant-Man as I have not read to the comics so some things may be incorrect but bear with me on this one and don't crucify me please!
Okay, so we're all looking forward to Peyton Reed's "Ant-Man" right?... right?... Okay maybe not as much as what could have been Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man", but it's still a Marvel movie that we are all pretty hyped for. A new character, a new Avenger and a new cast.
Lately, there have been grumblings floating around on the Internet about how comicbookmovies are becoming a bit more stale and predictable due to the "big spectacle ending". These types of endings were seen in the Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, Dark Knight Rises and so on. Basically, the "climax" of the film usually results in the hero doing battle with the villain which results in huge collateral damage to a city and requires PLENTY of CGI shots. Although I love Marvel, they have been a repeat offender of this. Let's break down the Marvel movies quickly:
"Iron Man" (2008): Big ending with Obadiah Stane that destroyed a bus and some cars. Although this is a relatively small battle compared to The Avengers, it still required quite a bit of CGI and had a huge amount of destruction.
"The Incredible Hulk" (2008): Huge climax battle between the Hulk and the Abomination which resulted in part of New York being absolutely demolished. Plenty of CGI needed.
"Iron Man 2" (2010): Drone battle.
"Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger" (2011): Thor and Cap 1 are my favourite on this list because they do NOT have a huge climax. Their endings are emotionally charged and have very little destruction/action (I am not accounting for the Destroyer scene in Thor, only the Thor/Loki battle).
"The Avengers" (2012): 'Nuff said.
"Iron Man 3" (2013): Big crane battle with the Iron Legion and Killian's minions.
"Thor: The Dark World" (2013): Big battle with Malakeith destroying quite a bit in a battle in London.
"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" (2014): Huge helicarrier battle.
So where the HELL am I going with this? Well, I believe that "Ant-Man" has the potential to possibly break this mold. Based off the footage description coming out of the recent Comic-Con, we hear elder Pym talking about how much he hates superheros because of the destruction they cause. This could lead Ant-Man to having a much smaller and much more emotionally charged showdown with his adversary (who has been confirmed to be Yellowjacket).
So what do you guys think? Would you be up for a smaller conclusion? Sound off below!
