Audiences were first introduced to Janet van Dyne in a brief flashback sequence in the first Ant-Man, when the original Wasp heroically went subatomic and became trapped in the Quantum Realm. Ant-Man and the Wasp explored this sequence further and brought Janet back into the world, with Michelle Pfieffer finally giving the character a face in the MCU.
New concept art from the first film reveals an early take on the heroine's suit that is noticeably different from the final product in the first film. This art comes from Marvel Studios senior concept artist Jackson Sze, who has been posting a lot of Ant-Man and the Wasp related artwork to his Twitter page recently with the film now in theaters.
Jackson's design depicts an elongated, pointed helmet and a slightly different color pattern for the suit, which drapes over her legs like a skirt. This design has a very distinctive look, with Jackson noting that he aimed "to keep the retro technology feel established in Hank Pym's Ant-Man suit." Ultimately, Marvel went with a sleeker suit designed by Marvel artist Andy Park. Check out Jackson's concept art below:
Do you prefer this design for Wasp's suit or the final version that we received in the two Ant-Man films? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and check out another neat concept piece from Jackson that shows an early take on exploring the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp. This piece, which was just an exercise in various possibilities for the sequel, shows the van Dynes and Scott Lang evading a hungry tardigrade.
