Pixar Ant-Man Movie Just a Rumor at this Stage

Potential Ant-Man director, Edgar Wright, says it's too early to tell...

So I don't Know if you know this, but Disney acquired Marvel. Shortly after many rumors started about projects that were going to be in development. The most popular and most favored report was that Ant-Man was going to be made by Pixar and Entertainment weekly said, “Pixar already has their eye on Ant-Man.” But the director doesn't think so.

Edgar Wright, the director of Ant-Man released this statement:

“I just spoke to Kevin Feige for the first time since I wrapped and we are meeting this week to discuss the next phase,” wrote Wright. “The news that Pixar is involved is not wholly accurate and a little premature to comment on. I love Pixar’s work more than anyone and indeed would love to collaborate with them.”

It was pretty obvious that this was a rumor made to make people happy about Marvel and Disney and turned into big news. I really hoped it was true, but when the director says it isn't that usually means it isn't. Many people have also believed that the project will never be made, or that it will be made after The Avengers in 2012. Wright had this to say in regards to the project:

“It’s true that the character is not considered one of the Marvel brand leaders and that is precisely what excites me about it. I want to make a film inside the Marvel Universe that is something a little different; a genre film within the superhero genre so to speak,” says Wright. “My spin on Ant Man is very different than a straight superhero origin - and very much live action. At some point in this century, I intend to stop talking about it and make the damn thing.”

So what do you think? Was it a good idea to have Pixar make this? Should they find a director that really wants to make the movie? Will this movie ever be made? Discuss it all and more below.

I hope it gets made. Hank Pym is such an interesting and flawed character. His story needs to be told.

He said the news that Pixar is involved is "not wholly accurate". That sounds to me like it's not wholly inaccurate either. I'm just happy it's getting made.

Ant-man will sit on the backburner for quite awhile. I am opposed to Pixar making Ant-man but, if they did we would see Ant-man by atleast 2011. Now its looking like IF it will be made maybe 2013 or so.

Maybe Pixar will be involved with the CGI aspects of the Live-Action movie.

Pixar are pretty damn clever and have been making great movies for years but I wouldnt want any Marvel hero portrayed in this way (and to be honest, i cant actually think of any that would work in that kind of format!)

An Ant-Man movie would probably be pretty good but id hope to see him in The Avengers and that its Hank Pym not that new Eric O'Grady douchebag!! Anyway, here are my picks for Marvel's 3 Ant-Men!

Michael Rapaport as Ant Man I (Hank Pym)

Ant-Man

Patrick Wilson as Ant-Man II (Scott Lang)

Ant-Man 2

Simon Pegg as Ant-Man III (Eric O'Grady)

Ant-Man 3

Though, id be just as happy with Wilson as Pym (even though he'd make a great Captain America IMO!)

Talking of Captains, go and check out my Captain Britain Fan Cast! :)

I dont know if we will ever see Antman star in his own movie. I really liked the idea of Pixar doing it though.

no computer animated ant-man. how could you intergrate that into a live action avengers?

@ superdog

maybe this would have been a different thing all together. lets remember that scott lang was antman for a good long time. it could have been him. i personally would like to see Pym be giant man in the avengers, rather than antman.

me too Corndogburgler.

But additionally, all the calls for the movie to depict the sinister Ultimate version made me lose interest altogether.

A super hero that abuses his wife is actually not a hero at all.
The Hank Pym from actual Marvel U has a bad attitude. He's a bit of a jackass, but ultimately he is a good man who distinguished himself as one of The Avenger's prime assets after decades of being a supporting member.

That's the one that I wanted to see. That's the one that would have worked in a Pixar film. So yeah, good. I'm glad it's dead.

@ darth

whats up man. yeah i agree, they made him into a giant asshole in ultimates. your right, he was always just a guy with a bad attitude, and yeah he slapped jan once in regular MU, but that one slap condemned his character forever, lol. he's still living in that shadow today in comics. its like no one else can write a good story about pym, so he'll just always be known as a woman beater, despite all the good things he's done.

oh wow... I didn't know it happened in MU also. lovely.

I stopped reading new comics a pretty long time ago so I missed that stuff and didn't know about it.

Anyway I heard some comments here about him and I thought they were referring the Ultimate version, but they weren't. As I unerstand it, the Ult. version is even worse. That sucks.

My bad

Ant-Man/Giant-Man is NOT as bad as people make him out to be, you folks should read Marvel Essentials Vol 1 of Ant-Man, each issue are interesting and enjoyable reads.

@ mulder

yeah, it happened in the MU, but your right, it was nowhere near as bad as in ultimates. they actually have a knock down, drag out fist fight in ultimates. in the MU pym and jan are arguing and he slaps her, but thats it if i'm not mistaken. not that one slap makes it okay, of course.

I find it hilarious people still refer to Edgar Wright as the "director of Ant-Man." I fyou haven't had the movie come out in the, what has it been now, forty years, since you announced the project, you are NOT DIRECTING ANYTHING!

After reading the Marvel Essentials Vol 1 of Ant-Man, Wasp seemed to be a REAL drama queen in the begining.

I would much rather see this as live-action than animated. It worked for the Incredibles, but that's only because those characters had never been seen before and it was aimed at kids. I really don't want to see any Marvel characters dumbed down for children any more than they already have been. There's already a line of toys out for little kids that are very cartoony. I can't remember the exact name of them. This may work for Spider-man, but I've seen the Wolverine and Hulk toys from this line and they're cheesy as hell. These characters were never aimed at children in the first place. I mean, Antman's a wife-beater for chrissakes! Is this a character we want little kids to be stoked on?
